  9. 9. Collocations Page 45 has a list of different collocations that are used in readings 1 & 2. You can find them by looking back through the stories. Here’s the key: R1 - Reading 1, pp. 32 - 34 R2 - Reading 2, pp. 40 - 42 Collocations are words that often appear together. Because English is kind of a stupid language, there are no real rules for how collocations work. You just have to learn them one by one.
  10. 10. Descriptive Writing When you use descriptive language, you are trying to make a clear image of what you are talking about. Some of the best ways to create good descriptions is to use: Adjectives I looked into her cold eyes. Adverbs I boldly looked into her cold eyes. Verbs I boldly gazed into her cold eyes and told her kiss me with the fire of a thousand suns. In the descriptive essay on page 47, find at least two sensory details for each of the five senses.
