Custom Imd Project Customized Implants

Custom IMD is an European research and development project formed by 13 partners. Partially funded by the European Union within the 6th Framework Programme, it will develop new biomaterials for customised medical implants. The main technology involved in the project is the Rapid Manufacturing, allowing the final product to be ready to surgery in 48 hours after medical request.

Project Overview: The Results <ul><li>Biomaterials for Implant Devices </li></ul><ul><li>Next generation materials displaying enhanced properties for improved performance, functionality and patient treatment (higher added value). </li></ul><ul><li>Provision of fundamental toxicological and biocompatibility data for the new materials : thus establish industry confidence and contribution to market stability (50% reduction in regulatory cost for use of the new materials) . </li></ul>www.customIMD.eu

Project Overview: The Results <ul><li>Business / e-supply Chain </li></ul><ul><li>Most EU hospitals have patient scanning modalities and therefore capacity to enter the Custom-IMD value chain. Training will be provided to enable clinical know-how for access and use. (95% of EU hospitals to have access to customised implants) </li></ul><ul><li>Greater EU supply chain integration and use of time compression and collaborative engineering resulting in improved supply chain efficiency (within 48 hours) . </li></ul>www.customIMD.eu

Project Overview: The Results <ul><li>Healthcare Provision </li></ul><ul><li>Demonstration of downstream cost savings ‘economic added value’ (cost saving for treatment of patient) </li></ul><ul><li>Customised implants based on patient needs, thus demonstrating improved aesthetic and functional performance, and therefore patient quality of life </li></ul><ul><li>Improved implant fixation, biocompatibility and lifetime (reduced risk of failure or need for corrective surgery) and greater use of bioresorbable materials, thus reducing need for subsequent surgery </li></ul>www.customIMD.eu
