Essay about networks
Improving Network Performance
Nowadays, it seems that everyone has a computer and is discovering that communication
technologies are necessary. E–mail, Internet, and file transferring has become a part of the modern
world. Networks allow people to connect their computers together and to share resources. They allow
people to communicate and interact with each other. The days of the lone PC are diminishing.
At the same time, computers are getting faster than ever. The most powerful PC five years ago
couldn't be sold for half of its original price today. This poses some problems to the consumer.New
technologies can't be driven by older technology. As innovations continue to be invented, the
computer of yesterday is fast outpaced by the...show more content...
Modems, a popular communications device, typically have throughput rates from 9600 baud (See
Glossary) to 28800 baud. Modems use an RS232 or serial port connection.
One solution to this transmission speed is the parallel or Centronics port. This port transmits eight
bits at a time instead of one with a serial port, which is how they got their names. Because it sends
eight bits at a time, a parallel port can achieve transfer rates of up to 40,000 bits or 5000 characters
a second (Seyer 64). Parallel ports are commonly used to connect to printers and external storage
devices.
The main problem with modems and parallel ports is that only two computers can be connected at
one time. Networks were invented to solve this. They allowed a group of computers to
communicate and to share resources such as hard disk space and printers. Different types of
networks have different throughput rates, but all are higher than either serial or parallel ports. The
type of network used at Banks High School is an Ethernet network with software from Novell. This
network has the capability of supporting transfer rates up to ten megabits per second (Bennett 1).
Although this seems like a lot, remember that all of the computers on the network are using this
connection at the same time and each computer has to share with every other computer. There are a
few ways to speed up a slow Ethernet network, however. Splitting the responsibility from one server
to many is one way, and using more than one

Essay about My Core Values

Example Essay
My Core Values
As I have grown as an adult and moved further towards success in my life, I have always
maintained a guided structure to achieve goals and tasks that challenge me. I call these my "Core
Values". This is a strict regimen or a belief system that I have instilled into my everyday practice to
complete any task that presents itself. Although not perfected, I have found this method to be quite
successful. My work ethic, responsibility, and my drive to further my education and knowledge
have never failed me. Life can seem tough and demanding on a very consistent basis, but I believe
that I have cultivated a plan to accommodate and withstand any trial
The first...show more content...
To build responsibility as a child I volunteered to take care of my family dog. Even though she was
the family's pet I took it upon myself to make sure she was properly fed, watered, and walked. My
mother was very proud of my new development as an adolescent. She became very encouraging
and would come up with other special chores around the house that I could be relied upon to
handle. To some children this would seem like a punishment, but both of my parents were so
supportive and persuasive that I looked forward to having the gained accountability. My father
instituted honesty and respect as monuments for responsibility. I of course struggled at times
with taking care of my dog, and handling some of my other chores. But my father always wanted
me to not only be honest with my parents, but also with myself. He stated that a lie would not
benefit anybody and it was disrespectful to tell a lie. He would tell me that a liar was the same as
a cheater, and nobody liked either. If I knew how to respect others and be honest, than my
responsibility would only increase. I asked why I would want added responsibility and my father
told me two things that changed my perspective completely. First, it was that responsible people
always tended to be more successful. Since I had always dreamed of growing up to be rich and
famous, I guess I could accept the added responsibility. The second thing he told me was that one
day I could possibly

Sampling Methods Essay
Sampling is the framework on which any form of research is carried out. A suitable sample that
meets the inclusion and exclusion criteria of a research design must be chosen from a given
population to carry out studies. In this essay comparison is made between stratified random
sampling and convenience sampling. The population on which the researcher is interested in
carrying out his or her research may be too large, therefore a suitable sample which can represent the
population in correct proportion must be chosen. Restraints such as limitation of time, resources and
many other factors necessitate the selection of a sample for research purpose so that better quality
data is obtained from it and that the researcher can make statement about...show more content...
The methodological strength and weaknesses of this two sampling methods is discussed in terms of
identifying the samples for research, the representativeness it possesses to the general population, the
methods and the outcome. Stratified random sampling is a probability sampling where the selection
of sampling unit is left to a random process, all units in the sample has an equal and non–zero
chance of being selected on a probability ground or chance and not on the choice or judgement of
the researcher (Sim,J and Wright,C. 2000,). Convenience sampling is an example of non probability
sampling where the selection of the units is not by chance, rather it is dependent on the researcher's
judgement, the researcher decides the samples to be included in the study which may be subject to
availability, time, individual preferences etc. The probability of selection of a particular sampling
unit may or may not be known. Stratified random sampling is commonly done in quantitative
researches. When the samples reflect the characteristics of the target population in the same
proportion; assumptions can be made on generalizing the data acquired from these samples provided
it has been done correctly, since it is statistically representative (Sim,J and wright,C.,2000) but

Essay about Sampling
Sampling
Carrying out a survey of every single potential consumer (known as population) of a firm's product
would be impractical, time–consuming and costly. Businesses still, however, need to collect
enough primary data to have a clear idea of the views of consumers. This can be done by taking a
sample of the population. This sample group should be made up of consumers that are
representative of all potential buyers of the product. There are a number of ways in which a sample
can be chosen.
Random Sampling
This method gives each member of a group an equal chance of being chosen. In other words, the
sample is selected at random, rather like picking numbers out of a hat. Today computers can...show

So, if the business was interested in how 'class' affected consumers' demand for a food product, it
might divide the population up into different class groups, such as working class males, middle
class females etc. A random sample could then be chosen from each of these groups by making
sure that they were the same proportions of the sample in each category as in population as a
whole. So if the population had 10 per cent upper class males, so would the sample.
Quota Sampling
This sampling method involves the population being segmented into a number of groups which
share specific characteristics. These may be based on the age and the sex of the population.
Interviewers are then given targets for the number of people out of each segment who they must
interview. For example, and interviewer may be asked to interview 10 males between the ages of
18 and 25, or 15 females between the ages of 45 and 60. Once the target is reached, no more people
from that group are interviewed. The advantage of this sampling method is that it can be cheaper to
operate than many of the others. It is also useful where the proportions of the different groups within
the population are known. However, results from quota sampling are not statistically representative
of the population and are not randomly chosen. They must therefore be treated with caution.
Cluster Sampling
This involves

A Litany Poem
You know those memories that never seem to go away like the ones that you look back on for
the laughs, midnight memories, or the stories that you will tell your children. Unfortunately, not
all memories are that happy. In the poem, "A Litany", Gregory Orr is recalling the day that he
accidentally shot his brother when they were both children. The poem portrays a time of great
sadness that Orr wants to share with the world as a way to cope and to speak to others who have
had significant death experiences. In his poem, Gregory Orr utilizes poetic elements to show that
one event can change one's life for forever. Orr uses imagery to show the reader that events can
mentally scar one's memory, in which a person vividly remembers that moment perfectly. To do
this Orr uses lots of descriptive words and phrases that bring the reader to visualize the scene of
the poem. An example is, "the dark stain already seeping across his parka hood"(2). The speaker
has this image implanted in his mind, because it is the first thing that he sees right after he has shot
his brother. As one reads this line, they can picture the image of blood seeping through the material
of the hood in their mind, making them feel as if they are standing there with him. In addition, Orr
uses the imagery of death throughout the poem. By writing, "In the bowl, among the vegetable
chunks / pale shapes of the alphabet bobbed at random or lay in the shallow spoon" (15–17). The
speaker is visualizing the pale deceased

But my father always wanted me to not only be honest with my parents, but also with myself. He stated that a lie would not benefit anybody and it was disrespectful to tell a lie. He would tell me that a liar was the same as a cheater, and nobody liked either. If I knew how to respect others and be honest, than my responsibility would only increase. I asked why I would want added responsibility and my father told me two things that changed my perspective completely. First, it was that responsible people always tended to be more successful. Since I had always dreamed of growing up to be rich and famous, I guess I could accept the added responsibility. The second thing he told me was that one day I could possibly Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Sampling Methods Essay Sampling is the framework on which any form of research is carried out. A suitable sample that meets the inclusion and exclusion criteria of a research design must be chosen from a given population to carry out studies. In this essay comparison is made between stratified random sampling and convenience sampling. The population on which the researcher is interested in carrying out his or her research may be too large, therefore a suitable sample which can represent the population in correct proportion must be chosen. Restraints such as limitation of time, resources and many other factors necessitate the selection of a sample for research purpose so that better quality data is obtained from it and that the researcher can make statement about...show more content... The methodological strength and weaknesses of this two sampling methods is discussed in terms of identifying the samples for research, the representativeness it possesses to the general population, the methods and the outcome. Stratified random sampling is a probability sampling where the selection of sampling unit is left to a random process, all units in the sample has an equal and non–zero chance of being selected on a probability ground or chance and not on the choice or judgement of the researcher (Sim,J and Wright,C. 2000,). Convenience sampling is an example of non probability sampling where the selection of the units is not by chance, rather it is dependent on the researcher's judgement, the researcher decides the samples to be included in the study which may be subject to availability, time, individual preferences etc. The probability of selection of a particular sampling unit may or may not be known. Stratified random sampling is commonly done in quantitative researches. When the samples reflect the characteristics of the target population in the same proportion; assumptions can be made on generalizing the data acquired from these samples provided it has been done correctly, since it is statistically representative (Sim,J and wright,C.,2000) but sampling error Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay about Sampling Sampling Carrying out a survey of every single potential consumer (known as population) of a firm's product would be impractical, time–consuming and costly. Businesses still, however, need to collect enough primary data to have a clear idea of the views of consumers. This can be done by taking a sample of the population. This sample group should be made up of consumers that are representative of all potential buyers of the product. There are a number of ways in which a sample can be chosen. Random Sampling This method gives each member of a group an equal chance of being chosen. In other words, the sample is selected at random, rather like picking numbers out of a hat. Today computers can...show more content... So, if the business was interested in how 'class' affected consumers' demand for a food product, it might divide the population up into different class groups, such as working class males, middle class females etc. A random sample could then be chosen from each of these groups by making sure that they were the same proportions of the sample in each category as in population as a whole. So if the population had 10 per cent upper class males, so would the sample. Quota Sampling This sampling method involves the population being segmented into a number of groups which share specific characteristics. These may be based on the age and the sex of the population. Interviewers are then given targets for the number of people out of each segment who they must interview. For example, and interviewer may be asked to interview 10 males between the ages of 18 and 25, or 15 females between the ages of 45 and 60. Once the target is reached, no more people from that group are interviewed. The advantage of this sampling method is that it can be cheaper to operate than many of the others. It is also useful where the proportions of the different groups within the population are known. However, results from quota sampling are not statistically representative of the population and are not randomly chosen. They must therefore be treated with caution. Cluster Sampling This involves Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. A Litany Poem You know those memories that never seem to go away like the ones that you look back on for the laughs, midnight memories, or the stories that you will tell your children. Unfortunately, not all memories are that happy. In the poem, "A Litany", Gregory Orr is recalling the day that he accidentally shot his brother when they were both children. The poem portrays a time of great sadness that Orr wants to share with the world as a way to cope and to speak to others who have had significant death experiences. In his poem, Gregory Orr utilizes poetic elements to show that one event can change one's life for forever. Orr uses imagery to show the reader that events can mentally scar one's memory, in which a person vividly remembers that moment perfectly. To do this Orr uses lots of descriptive words and phrases that bring the reader to visualize the scene of the poem. An example is, "the dark stain already seeping across his parka hood"(2). The speaker has this image implanted in his mind, because it is the first thing that he sees right after he has shot his brother. As one reads this line, they can picture the image of blood seeping through the material of the hood in their mind, making them feel as if they are standing there with him. In addition, Orr uses the imagery of death throughout the poem. By writing, "In the bowl, among the vegetable chunks / pale shapes of the alphabet bobbed at random or lay in the shallow spoon" (15–17). The speaker is visualizing the pale deceased Get more content on HelpWriting.net
