senses. When a writer attempts to
describe something so that it appeals
to our sense of smell, sight, taste,
touch, or hearing; he/she has
used imagery.
Imagery

bacon into the frying pan, and soon
the salty, greasy smell wafted
toward me.

4. The poet uses rhyme, rhythm,
and/or repetition to help the
listener to hear the poem. The
poem is given a beat.
Sound
5. The beat of a poem, which can be
attained through syllables,
repetition and rhyme.

6. What a poem looks like.
E.g. Diamantes in the shape of a
diamond.
Form
7. Comparing one thing to another,
using the words ‘like’ or ‘as’.
Example: cute as a kitten

8. Comparison not using ‘like’ or ‘as’
Example: Freddie is a pig when he
eats
Metaphor
9. The use of words that imitate sounds.
Examples:

10. A figure of speech in which an
object or animal is given human
feelings, thoughts, or attitudes
Example:
- “The Sun smiled at us”.
Personification
12. The pattern in which rhyme sounds
occur in a stanza.
