AdGrads: From Exeter To Adland
Will Humphrey Strategist, Lowe william.humphrey@ yahoo.co.uk Hello there.
I graduated - and was like the guy on the left…
but part of me always wanted to make things…
so I blogged…
… got hired…
… and worked at a few agencies (some of them are still here).
… since I got in, the landscape’s changed…
the industry’s gone from this...
to this..
and it changes how you look for inspiration, ideas…
tips to get some advertising loving… … or even love. Here’s
1. find out what people are talking about…
2. have a perspective (however weird things get)…
3. remember there are no barriers…
4. ignore stereotypes…
(because stereotypes are what most ad agencies do)
5. be aware of how you come across…
6. keep sharing your ideas…
7. or put a new twist on an old song…
8. listen to see if like-minded people are interested… see if your thinking spreads…
(you don’t want just one guy like this talking to you)
9. don’t take it seriously… and above all…
10. be nice - to everyone.
Finally, a couple of things to bear in mind…
working in advertising is sometimes like being a student…
and the best work always gives people something to do.
