Health & Safety at Work act 1974 <ul><li>The law protects employees in the work place. </li></ul><ul><li>An employer has to provide a safe environment for their workers. </li></ul><ul><li>The employer is also responsible for the employees health whilst at work. </li></ul><ul><li>Health and safety executives make sure businesses adhere to the law. </li></ul>

Health and Safety at Work 1974 <ul><li>The Act covers all places of work including factories, shops, schools and farms. </li></ul><ul><li>Employers have to take steps to make sure accidents don’t happen. They also have to make sure their employees all have the correct safety equipment. </li></ul><ul><li>There are specific rules for the handling of dangerous substances, such as asbestos and toxic chemicals. </li></ul>

Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 <ul><li>Assess the health and safety risks that might result in using their computers. </li></ul><ul><li>Ensure that their computer equipment meets minimum safety standards </li></ul><ul><li>Plan workers’ activities – getting away from the computer </li></ul><ul><li>Provide eye tests to staff who regularly use Visual Displays </li></ul><ul><li>Provide information on how workers can minimise health and safety risks </li></ul>
