  2. 2. Physical Properties you can measure • Mass is the amount of matter that makes up an object. • Mass is measured in grams (g) and kilograms (kg) • You can use a pan balance or triple beam balance to measure mass.
  3. 3. Physical Properties you can measure • Weight is the pull of gravity on an object’s mass. • A spring scale can be used to measure weight.
  4. 4. Physical Properties you can measure • The basic unit of weight is the newton (N) • However, in everyday life weight is given measurements in grams and kilograms, just like mass.
  5. 5. Physical Properties you can measure • This is because on Earth, an object’s mass and weight are about the same. • That is because the pull of gravity is nearly the same everywhere on Earth.
