Brain Squad Marketing/Elevator Pitch

 1. 1. The Brain Squad presented by The Champions
 2. 2. Our Mission Statement

The Brain Squad exists to HELP students.

We take a unique and innovative approach to teaching that helps students connect with the subject matter they need to master.

Through personal and focused teaching processes, our students develop the tools they need for ongoing success in their fields of study.

We don’t succeed unless our clients succeed.

 3. 3. Our Step by Step Approach
 4. 4. Our Marketing Objectives

Increase the number of students are served by promoting testimonials and referrals.

Our goal the first year is to grow 10% each month as our referrals increase.

Our research shows that COC is one of the fastest growing community colleges in the state, and ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the U.S.

There are more than 20,000 students currently enrolled with many students concentrating in mathematics, liberal arts and art studies.

The need for tutors will continuously increase as more students enroll at COC instead of CSUN because of the state budget cutbacks. With the opening of the University Center at COC the need will be even greater. We have close relationships with many of the professors at COC so we hope to obtain a steady stream of referrals from them.

Our keys to success will be the students themselves who will create excellent word of mouth promotion; clients sell services to other students.

 5. 5.

Executive Summary

We are launching a new student tutoring business at College of the Canyons. Our market is the Santa Clarita Valley where there is a high demand for tutoring both at the college and high school level, increasing as more schools are built. The tutoring business currently in the U.S. is estimated to be over 10 billion annually.

There are several colleges, public and private schools that will provide our business with a steady flow of students. We will provide tutoring in the courses offered to graduate and undergraduate students.

The Brain Squad is a sole proprietorship, and our staff is comprised of certified graduate and undergraduate students, high school teachers and experienced tutors who sign contracts.

We also cater to the business market too. We offer a convenient, economical and effective tutoring service to meet the needs of the student or the business professional. In our third year we plan on establishing a satellite office at the Canyon Country Campus as our business and community continues to grow.

 6. 6.

Marketing Summary

The core segment of our market is the graduate and undergraduate students at COC and The Master's College (1500 students), and local high school students. There is also a sizeable market of over 10,000 business customers in the Valencia Industrial Center.

Business customers may need tutoring services to help them promote or test within their company. The majority of competition comes from tutoring conducted in the campus TLC lab or friends of the student.

There is no organized tutoring service available that really meets all the needs of the student in all courses in an organized manner, or one that offers online tutoring and resource center.

Study Pros is a local referral service that matches the student to the tutor and does not offer online or mobile tutoring. Research shows that the median household income in SCV last year was $79,000 so we feel our fees are affordable and economical. There are more than 8 other colleges within a 30 mile radius of the SCV with more than 30,000 students that we will target for our online tutoring services.

 7. 7.

Marketing Strategy

We will focus on having one company that can meet all a student’s needs.

Daily updates on our websites for new specials, news, new tutors, student of the month with student’s permission.

We offer a guarantee of bringing a student’s grade up one grade point in 10 hours of tutoring time or your money back.

Our students can get help in any subject, at any time, in a variety of ways.

What sets our company apart from the competition is our excellence at tutoring and meeting the individual needs of the student.

 14. 14. Resources
 15. 15.

Direct Marketing Procedures for Schools, Colleges, Universities, and Classrooms

Representatives from The Brain Squad will establish a relationship with the faculty and administration of schools of all levels. For students below the college level we will focus on distributing advertising material that will reach the students’ parents or guardians.

This material may also consist of promotional offers such as discounts or a free lesson depending on time of year or demand. For students at the college level or above, we will focus on going to as many classrooms as possible, particularly commonly difficult classes such as Mathematics or English. We want to establish a prior agreement with the instructor and give a very brief introduction and presentation to the students about how we can help them succeed in the class. We will also leave them with marketing materials, cards, and a contact number written on the board. This is a very effective and inexpensive way to directly marketing our business to the people who need us most.

 16. 16. We are Always Available to Help

Our tutors work flexible hours from home, school , mobile appointments or anywhere with internet access.

A student can log in at 1 am and receive the necessary help they need.

After exams, the student may bring in their exams to be reviewed.
 17. 17. Open House : Although we have been open for several weeks now, we will have an official Open House the first week of February to correlate with the beginning of spring semester at our Valencia tutoring center. We will have an all-day Open House with refreshments for students, teachers and parents to stop by and see our tutoring center and meet the staff. The Mayor of Santa Clarita will be coming by to see our center, give a short speech on the importance of education and supporting local businesses, and the Signal newspaper has agreed to come out and do an article with photos on our event. We have a press kit for the media and promotional materials and specials to hand out to visitors. We anticipate as many as 500 visitors during the day and will have many articles and photos of the event to post to all our sites including Flickr as promotion. During the event we will have ongoing PowerPoint presentations that completely detail our services offered and how we can help the student achieve their goals.

The constantly changing images, videos, audios and blogs will help our business not only in search but in promotion, providing information and networking.

We have developed a monthly BrainSquad Newsletter with weekly podcasts.

THiNK Santa Clarita Valley and the SCV Chamber website did a spotlight on our business with the Open House information.

Blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Youtube, Craigslist, Enzine Articles, Pitch Engine, SCV Education FounadationKHTS AM-1220

We use RSS feeds from our website to keep our customers up to date and informed, along with email and text alerts.

SWOT

Strengths : we offer a much needed, affordable tutoring service that will fit in to a students busy schedule with flexible appointment hours and mobile tutoring option that many students will take advantage of.

Weaknesses: new company with limited start-up budget for advertising and promotion.

Opportunities: the need for an affordable tutoring service in the SCV, from our research there is only one other company and that is a referral service only, they match student to the tutor.

Threats: increasing costs of running the business due to the economic environment, new recruitment of tutors, our rent may be raised when lease is up. Competition from newer tutoring companies in the future.

 22. 22. Budget

Total first year sales is projected at $100,000. We will become profitable after 1,000 hours of tutoring. We anticipate spending $3,000 the first year on advertising and promotion as we try to keep our marketing budget under 3% of total revenue. Our second year objective is $150,000 in total sales with $4,500 in the marketing budget.

We will have monthly meetings to evaluate our progress and continued marketing efforts. Our website tracks number of hits and visits per day and we will add more content as our business grows. As our business grows our budget for advertising and promotion will rise accordingly.
