Bone Injuries & First Aid Treatment

  1. 1. First Aid Treatment Prepared by: Lovelyn Mataac
  2. 2. First Aid <ul><li>First Aid is an emergency treatment given to an injured person before medical help can be obtained. </li></ul>
  3. 3. First Aid for SPRAIN <ul><li>Use RICE treatment. </li></ul><ul><li>Rest-do not move the affected area. </li></ul><ul><li>Ice-Apply ice pack to reduce swelling. </li></ul><ul><li>Compression-Wrap a bandage around the affected joint. </li></ul><ul><li>Elevation-Raise the injured joint above the level of the heart to lessen the pain. </li></ul>
  4. 4. First Aid for Fracture <ul><li>1. Help the person sit or lie down w/o moving the injured part. If he or she is already lying down, do not move him or her. </li></ul><ul><li>2. Apply an ice pack or cloth soaked in cold water on the injured part to lessen the pain. (This is not advisable for an open fracture!) </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>3. Apply a disinfectant if there is a break in the skin to prevent infection. </li></ul><ul><li>4. Use a splint to support the broken bone. (if a smooth piece of wood is not available, you can make a splint by folding a newspaper until it is firm enough to support. </li></ul>
  6. 6. True or False. Write your answer on your notebook. <ul><li>1. If a person suffer from open fracture, apply an ice pack or cloth soaked in a cold water. </li></ul><ul><li>2. Use a splint to support a broken bone. </li></ul><ul><li>3. Apply Betadine in case there is a break in the skin. </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>4. In case of dislocation, do not move the affected joint. </li></ul><ul><li>5. In case of dislocation or sprain, wrap a bandage around the affected area. </li></ul><ul><li>6. Call for help in case of bone injury. </li></ul><ul><li>7. Let the patient rest. </li></ul><ul><li>8. Do not attempt to move the injured person if he has broken neck or backbone. </li></ul>
