The Grand Theft Auto V online game has been released today (1st October 2013).
The online version of the most popular game of the year allows multiplayer mode gameplay and is available to download for free with gamers’ copies of GTA V.
The GTA V main titles surpassed the $800 million figure on its launch date of 17th September, and reached record-breaking sales of $1 billion within three days.
Rockstar Games announced on their blog that players will first need to download a small patch, which has been released on the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE. Once the Title Update has been installed, users will have direct access to begin GTA Online within the GTAV game menu. The online game can be played via the bottom slot of the GTAV character wheel.
Online story mode
Since the launch of the GTA V game, many players have either completed, or are close to completing story mode. When asked how the narrative of GTA Online would correlate, Rockstar stated that GTA Online is “set a few months prior to the events of Grand Theft Auto V’s single player story”.
The company has warned already of initial technical problems that may occur within the first few days of the launch, however Rockstar will be monitoring the situation and will be working to smooth out any problems as they occur. Free content updates will also be rolled out for GTA Online in the first few weeks after launch.
GTA V hidden features – even more new content
In anticipation of the online game launch, players have been reporting Easter eggs (hidden features) within the GTA V game and a map can now been found on the GTA V website, giving an approximate location as to where these features can be found, including an alien base, Bigfoot, Sea monsters and more.
There are many other secrets included in GTA V for gamers to look out for from film references to mentions celebrating Rockstar’s home land of Scotland.
