2. John 3:16-21 For God so loved the world that He
gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes
in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
(17) For God did not send His Son into the world to
condemn the world, but that the world through Him
might be saved. (18) He who believes in Him is not
condemned; but he who does not believe is
condemned already, because he has not believed in
the name of the only begotten Son of God. (19) And
this is the condemnation, that the light has come
into the world, and men loved darkness rather than
light, because their deeds were evil. (20) For
everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not
come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
(21) But he who does the truth comes to the light,
that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have
been done in God.“
3. OUR HEART
A.The heart is very important in
scripture. - Proverbs 4:23 Keep your
heart with all diligence, For out of it
spring the issues of life.
B.The heart has potential for good and
evil. - Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O
God, and know my heart; Try me, and
know my anxieties; 24 And see if there
is any wicked way in me, And lead me
in the way everlasting.
4. I. THE LOVING HEART OF GOD
A.John 3:16 For God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should
not perish but have everlasting life.
B.1 John 3:16 By this we know love,
because He laid down His life for us.
And we also ought to lay down our
lives for the brethren.
5. II. THE BELIEVING HEART OF MAN
A.John 3:16 For God so loved the world that
He gave His only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him should not perish
but have everlasting life.
B.John 6:28-29 Then they said to Him,
"What shall we do, that we may work the
works of God?" 29 Jesus answered and
said to them, "This is the work of God, that
you believe in Him whom He sent."
C.Belief is a work, something we do.
D.Many reject the necessity of baptism for
salvation because it is a work.
6. III. THE UNCONDEMNING HEART
OF GOD
A. John 3:17a For God did not send His Son into
the world to condemn the world, but that the
world through Him might be saved.
B. John 12:47-48 And if anyone hears My words
and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I
did not come to judge the world but to save
the world. 48 He who rejects Me, and does
not receive My words, has that which judges
him--the word that I have spoken will judge
him in the last day.
C. God’s Heart is to NOT condemn man.
7. IV. THE SAVING HEART OF GOD
A. John 3:17b For God did not send His Son
into the world to condemn the world, but that
the world through Him might be saved.
B. 1 John 4:9-10 In this the love of God was
manifested toward us, that God has sent His
only begotten Son into the world, that we
might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not
that we loved God, but that He loved us and
sent His Son to be the propitiation for our
sins.
C. God’s purpose is the salvation of man
through the sacrifice of Christ
8. V. THE UNCONDEMNED HEART OF FAITH
A. John 3:18a “He who believes in Him is not
condemned; but he who does not believe is
condemned already, because he has not
believed in the name of the only begotten Son of
God.
B. John 5:24 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who
hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me
has everlasting life, and shall not come into
judgment, but has passed from death into life.
C. The man who truly believes in the son is able to
live a life free from condemnation. Christ has set
us free from it!
9. VI. THE CONDEMNED HEART OF
UNBELIEF
A. John 3:18b “He who believes in Him is not
condemned; but he who does not believe is
condemned already, because he has not
believed in the name of the only begotten
Son of God.
B. John 3:36 He who believes in the Son has
everlasting life; and he who does not believe
the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of
God abides on him.”
C. Unbelief concerning the Son of God keeps
people under condemnation and living apart
from the freedom that Christ has now made
available to those who would place their trust
and faith in him.
10. VII. THE EVIL HEART OF DARKNESS
A. John 3:19-20 And this is the condemnation,
that the light has come into the world, and
men loved darkness rather than light,
because their deeds were evil. (20) For
everyone practicing evil hates the light and
does not come to the light, lest his deeds
should be exposed.
B. John 1:9-11 That was the true Light which
gives light to every man coming into the
world. 10 He was in the world, and the world
was made through Him, and the world did not
know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His
own did not receive Him.
11. VIII. THE TRUTHFUL HEART OF LIGHT
A. John 3:21 But he who does the truth comes
to the light, that his deeds may be clearly
seen, that they have been done in God."
B. 1 John 1:5-7 This is the message which we
have heard from Him and declare to you, that
God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him,
and walk in darkness, we lie and do not
practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light
as He is in the light, we have fellowship with
one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ
His Son cleanses us from all sin.
12. YOUR HEART?
A. God looks at the heart. - 1 Samuel 16:7 But the
LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his
appearance or at the height of his stature,
because I have refused him. For the Lord does not
see as man sees; for man looks at the outward
appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."
B. God knows your heart. - Luke 16:15 And He said
to them, "You are those who justify yourselves
before men, but God knows your hearts. For what
is highly esteemed among men is an abomination
in the sight of God.
C. God will reveal the contents of our heart. - 1
Corinthians 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before
the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring
to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal
the counsels of the hearts. Then each one's praise
will come from God.
13. YOUR HEART?
D. What is in your heart?
E. John 5:24-29 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he
who hears My word and believes in Him who sent
Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into
judgment, but has passed from death into life.
25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is
coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the
voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will
live. 26 For as the Father has life in Himself, so He
has granted the Son to have life in Himself, 27 and
has given Him authority to execute judgment also,
because He is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at
this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in
the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth--
those who have done good, to the resurrection of
life, and those who have done evil, to the
resurrection of condemnation.
