Green Teaching Hints <ul><li>Sustainability-themed assignments: Have your students … </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Write an essay about why they do or do not use public transportation. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Research alternative vs. traditional fuels and give a speech about the true costs of each. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Explore the implications of the climate crisis on national security. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Bring their lunch & then evaluate the carbon footprint of each meal (e.g., how the food was packaged, where it was grown, “true cost” of eating meat vs. vegetables, etc.). </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Behavioral changes </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Add a “sustainability clause” to your syllabus, encouraging students to reduce, reuse, and recycle; prohibit use of single-use plastic bottles in your classroom in favor of reusable beverage bottles. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Use half sheets of paper for assignments, quizzes, or other handouts, when possible. </li></ul></ul>(http://article.wn.com/view/2011/02/03/Gulf_of_Mexico_to_recover_from_BP_spill_by_end_2012/)
