Let's look at the way we use iPads in the classroom. Are there merely a tool to automate traditionally taught tasks? How do we use the iPad as a tool to TRANSFORM teaching and learning? How does this look like in the classroom?

  • As a future childhood educator, I found this blog to be very insightful. As it implies, we will be teaching the "swiping generation." Therefore, why wouldn't we take advantage of the technology that surrounds us and incorporate iPads into our lessons and our curriculum? We should always be looking for ways to expand learning opportunities that go beyond typical classroom materials. In this blog, I found the ideas for using the iPad in literacy very valuable. This slideshow discussed the “visualization, organization, and annotation” opportunities associated with eBooks. Being able to highlight, circle, write, draw, etc on the pages provides an in depth experience that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to encounter through the regular classroom library. This blog also mentioned many other benefits for literacy education including watching book trailers, storytelling, creating a reading fluency portfolio for assessment, creating their own eBook, and even creating collaborative eBooks. These are just a few of the ways iPads can not only be useful in the classroom, but also for preparing our students to use technology in an appropriate and constructive manor, since they will be surrounded by it for the rest of their lives.

  • I think using iPad in the classroom could be a huge benefit to students. I have a young autistic son and I think he could use this as a great developmental tool. I also am an ESL teacher and think that the diversity of the iPad benefits students with differentiated learning. Thanks for the very useful slide!
