Temptation

  1. 1. TEMPTATION. . . Are you ready for the battle?
  2. 2. Don’t be fooled by temptation there are many forms of temptation
  3. 3. We are tempted. . . 1.To be something we are not to be with someone we want 2.To do something we shouldn’t to get something want 3.To dilute a standard we have to satisfy a desire there are many forms of temptation
  4. 4. Last Week • Mark 14:37-38 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Simon," he said to Peter, "are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour? [38] Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." • We looked at this from accountability but what about the temptation that was presented through fatigue?
  5. 5. Something further to consider • John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
  6. 6. • To take the property of another wrongfully and especially as a Steal habitual or regular practice.
  7. 7. Kill • To deprive of life • To cause death • To put an end to
  8. 8. Destroy • To ruin the structure, o rganic existence, or condition of something •To ruin as if by tearing to shreds

  10. 10. Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 1. Temptation is for everyone a. Jesus was tempted (purposefully) b. Why shouldn’t we expect to be tempted 2. Temptation doesn’t have to be a bad thing. a. Temptation is always an opportunity to do right b. Temptation can make us better i. Strengthen us ii. Make us wiser iii. Teach us about ourselves
  11. 11. Luke 8:13 Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a little while, but in the time of testing (temptation) they fall away. 1. We have a choice of the type of seed we are a. Those on the rock, or the path or the thorny ground 2. Temptation can take you out if you are not careful a. There will be a time tempting so plan on it b. If not rooted you WILL fall away
  12. 12. Luke 22:40 On reaching the place, he said to them, "Pray that you will not fall into temptation." 1. There is something we can do about temptation a. What does Jesus say to do not to fall into temptation? Pray
  13. 13. 1 Cor. 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. 1. Temptation is not that powerful a. It is all common b. We will be tempted i. You ain’t that special a. God has already planned for it, for you i. Through his faithfulness ii. Through his provision
  14. 14. 1 Timothy 6:9 People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 1. Figure out your tempter a. “people who want to get “rich” i. What is your wealth?
  15. 15. James 1:12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. 1. There is a blessing in the outcome a. Blessing = satisfaction i. The crown of life comes from passing the test ii. The Crown of life is peace now and peace forevermore

Verse 1 Refrain: Yield not to temptation, for yielding is sin; Ask the Savior to help Each vict’ry will help you some other to win; you, comfort, strengthen and Fight manfully onward, dark passions subdue; keep you; He is willing to aid Look ever to Jesus, He’ll carry you through. you, He will carry you through Verse 2 Shun evil companions, bad language disdain, God’s name hold in rev’rence, nor take it in vain; Be thoughtful and earnest, kindhearted and true; Look ever to Jesus, He’ll carry you through. Verse 2 To him that o’ercometh, God giveth a crown, Through faith we will conquer, though oft’ cast down; He who is our Savior, our strengh will renew Look ever to Jesus He’ll carry you through
