Eight animal faces for finger puppets, stick puppets and masks for primary classes Lalit Kishore, CULP, Jaipur Based on the teacher training sessions for small tribal schools called Maa Baris in Rajasthan in February and March, eight simple animal faces were standardized for teaching grade one students with finger puppets, grade two students with stick puppets and grade three students with masks. The eight animals that were found appropriate for initial literacy skills were: monkey, tiger, cat, fox, pig, bear, rabbit, and cow as shown in the following box. In small schools, social distance between puppeteer or masked characters and students was standardized as one, two and three metres from grade one to grade three successively. Maa Baris project is being co-partnered by SWACH, UNICEF and CULP in the tribal region of Rajasthan.
