  2. 2. That <ul><li>Thousands of our orangutan friends are being poached and kept as illegal pets. On the island of Borneo and the Country of Sumatra? </li></ul>
  3. 3. Now <ul><li>What could make this growing problem worse? </li></ul>
  4. 4. Palm Oil Companies <ul><li>Keep cutting down the rainforest and replacing the trees with palm trees. About 20,000 square miles of the forest were cut down in 1982-1984. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Consider this… <ul><li>In 1993 the population of orangutans in Sumatra was 12,000, now there are only about 6,500 in Sumatra. </li></ul>
  6. 6. BUT!!!! <ul><li>Conservancy funds are trying to stop this. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Now <ul><li>Aren’t you glad that there are people striving for a solution? </li></ul>

  14. 14. Solution <ul><li>Do not buy paper or wood products. This will give less need to cut down the rainforest for paper or wood. </li></ul>
  15. 15. Solution II <ul><li>You can donate money to a conservancy fund in Borneo or Sumatra or online at websites such as www.Redapes.org . </li></ul>
  16. 16. Solution III <ul><li>Also people can try to limit the amount palm products that they buy. </li></ul>
  17. 17. <ul><li>If Everyone Did This </li></ul>
  18. 18. <ul><li>The Rainforest and the World will both be a better place. </li></ul>
  19. 19. <ul><li>And Orangutans will have freedom and happiness. </li></ul>
