  2. 2. •Hurricane names are managed by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
  3. 3. •There are 6 lists of names •One list is used per year •Each list has 21 names •Before 1979 only female names were used
  4. 4. •If one year exceeds the 21 names on the list, the WMO uses the greek alphabet.
  5. 5. •Devastating hurricane names like Igor, Ike and Katrina have been retired due the extreme damage they caused.
