  1. 1. MAY 2011 KELLER WILLIAMS CANADA MONTHLY UPDATE ON NEWS AND EVENTS AT KW CANADA Keller Williams Culture at its Best! As one of the KW Cultural Ambassadors for Canada I would like share a story of KW Culture at its best. Recently one of our agents Mike Inside This Issue McDougall was in Cuba with his family for his brothers wedding. Culture Story Unfortunately his sister was not able to attend the wedding because she has been in the hospital for months now fighting Cronh’s and Colitis, Mega Agent Joins and was too sick to travel. The McDougall family was hoping to have aKeller Williams Realty Office in Halifax nice vacation and celebrate the wedding of one of Mikes brothers. The April YTD Stats night of the wedding Mikes older brother who in his late 20s and diabetic fell ill. He was taken to a hospital in Cuba where he slipped into CREA Stats a diabetic coma. He then suffered heart failure several times. KW Commercial Immediately the family notified his wife who was home in Canada. She KW Luxury couldnt attend the wedding either, because of exams. After hearing the Training Events news of her husband, she booked a flight out to Cuba to be with him. Tragically the same day she was to fly to Cuba, her husband/Mikes MC News & Events brother passed away. Mark you Calendars Mike and his family came home from Cuba just after Easter eEdge weekend, sadly without his brother. Gord came home about a week after the rest of the family did so they could then have a proper funeral service RED Day 2011 for him. Suzanne Mills was taking care of his business, and just KW Canada Goals continued to serve his clients while he spent time with his family morning the loss of his brother. Our market centre has stepped up to continue serving Mikes clients by signing them up, showing homes and doing offers for him. Keller Williams Ottawa Realty MC 237 On Thursday May 12th, Keller Williams Ottawa Realty helped refurbish the Lowertown Good Neighbours Community House in downtown Ottawa! The Lowertown Community House serves nearly 700 people monthly by providing them with food, clothing, internet services, recreational and social activities, youth outreach, collective kitchens, workshops, referral services and more! The centre is a small converted town home subsidized by the city of Ottawa and with a limited budget,they have little money to spend on updating the facility. With the help of nearly 50 Sales Representatives and Staff throughout the day, we were able to spruce the place up with fresh paint, new hardware & blinds, beautiful landscaping and a Central Air Conditioning System for those hot, humid summer days! We also held a fantastic barbeque that was well received by the community – serving nearly 300 hot dogs and hamburgers to the community! The day was a tremendous success! 14

Volunteers prepared & served food for thedinner service Keller Williams VIP MC 392 & Keller Williams Solid Rock MC 425 We joined forces again this year to collect Food for the Ottawa Food Bank at 6 different store fronts in Ottawa, filling the bins as people donate.Keller Williams Referred Realty MC 403This year over 100 Keller Williams Referred Realty associates, friends andcommunity members participated in RED Day activities which ranged from re-vamping Humewood Housesextensive gardens in the front and back yards as well as painting and providing some much needed manuallabour inside the house, to painting the entire dining hall at St. Matthews United church. Volunteers alsosorted through an office full of donations that were the result of the communities generous outpouring ofsupport for our charities. Lastly, food preparation crews ensured all our volunteers and participants werewell fed. We ended the day with a Celebratory BBQ where RED Day volunteer efforts were recognized by localcouncilor Joe Mihevic. Keller Williams ValleyRealty MC 706 We took 2 pick-up trucks, 1 SUV, and the trunk of 1 car (approximately 3000 pounds) to the Food Bank.Keller Williams Advantage Realty MC 777We supported a local family shelter, “The Red Door”. The Red Door isinstrumental in assisting families in need of housing, food and a sense ofcommunity. Agents and staff were painting, gardening and collectingclothing and furniture donations from the community. A BBQ was held forthe residents of the Red Door Shelter. Keller Williams Elite Realty MC 833 The Keller Williams Elite Realty offices (Maple Ridge & Port Coquitlam) collected food donations for two food banks for the entire week followed by a BBQ (By donation to KW Cares) 16

MAY 2011 KELLER WILLIAMS CANADAKW Canada RED Day 2011Keller Williams Realty Centres MC 848As part of this focus, Keller Williams Realty Centres, Brokerage in Newmarket fora second year in a row selected Inn From The Cold, Inc., a non-profitorganization in Newmarket supported by trained volunteers, providing emergencyfood, clothing and shelter to the homeless since 2004. Starting at 9:00 am over80 Keller Williams Realty Centres volunteers including family, friends andstudents gathered at the Inn from the Cold and spent the day washing windows,painting inside and outside the building, planting numerous plants, trees andshrubs as well as conducting a door-to-door food drive. Special thanks toSherwin Williams in Aurora, Vince’s Country Market in Sharon, Tree ValleyGarden Centre and Nurseries, in Richmond Hill, Holland Valley Nursery, R.R. #1 Newmarket, Clifford’s Haulage, inAurora, The Perennial Gardens in Newmarket for all their generous donations and all our generous neighborhoodfamilies who contributed to stocking the Food Pantry and assisting us in accomplishing our goals for Red Day.The Keller Williams Realty Centres, Keswick Branch, along with family and friends totaling 20 in all had a verysuccessful day making a difference at the Sandgate Women’s Shelter in Georgina planting, painting, yard cleanup and providing a barbeque for the residents.At the end of the day, everyone gathered together for a fabulous barbeque at the Inn From The Cold tostories and enjoyed a fabulous pot luck dinner and great music. Keller Williams Real Estate Service MC 837 Habitat for Humanity RED Day. We were building on a site at Kinston and Morningside roads of approximately 15 homes for families in need. We did everything from framing, dry-walling, puttying, taping, finishing work and cleaning of the site. We raised almost $7,000!! It was a wonderful experience and the idea that families will have a roof over their heads because of our contribution is humbling. We’re looking forward to doing it again next year!!Keller Williams Energy Realty MC 838Our office supported Feed The Need Durham. We had a charity carwash/BBQ and raised approx $500 for our chosen organization. Wecleaned, worked on gardening/landscaping, built a shed for their newforklift and of course donating food so Feed The Need can continue tosupport our local food banks." 17

MAY 2011 KELLER WILLIAMS CANADAKeller Williams Realty MC 873On May 12, 2011 the realtors and staff of KW Halifax participated in REDDay by volunteering at the WEE CARE Day Care Centre in Halifax - anon-profit organization specializing in helping challenged children. Morethan 40 members painted, gardened, cleaned, did plumbing, electrical,carpentry and a variety of other maintenance issues. They barbequed achicken lunch for everyone and donated the BBQ to the centre at the endof the day. The management and staff at the centre were amazed that agroup of professional people would give us their day for the betterment ofthe centre. They want us back next year! Keller Williams Lifestyles Realty MC 890 Realtors, friends and family of Keller Williams Lifestyles Realty donned work gloves, carried garbage bags and cleaned up trash along the Streets of London, Ontario. Along the way we encountered and chatted with many citizens and enjoyed the honks of passing vehicle horns in support of our efforts. The streets are tidied...camaraderie was enjoyed ... and many expressions were made wishing to join us for whatever our Red Day plans will be for next year. Thus, Red Day 2011 was introduced to London, Ontario ... the start of a new and exciting tradition for the people at Keller Williams Lifestyles Realty and to our beautiful city.   19. 19. MAY 2011 KELLER WILLIAMS CANADACulture Story continued from page 1... Within hours of us finding out this tragic news we were all asking what can we do? How can we help? How can our KWfamily support the McDougall family during this trying time? As we all know that once you stop lead generating, your businessstops producing. So we asked the question of how to help his business continue while he mourns with his family? Our leadershiphas stepped up to the plate and is now building "Team McDougall". Todd Skinner our TL sent out an email asking we step out of thebox and think of ways we can lead generate, list and sell on Mikes behalf and who was "in" to help. My phone didnt stop buzzingwith all the replies saying count me in, I have ideas, Ill be there, I want to help, etc. It brought tears to my eyes and I know others.Our leadership met with a group of our agents to strategize how we make this happen for Mike. We gathered with our ideas so we could continue to work on Mikes behalf and serve his clients. We also learned thatMikes brother Gord didnt have life insurance so the cost of flying Gord home and the funeral services were overwhelming to theMcDougall Family and Gords wife, Erin. Our KW family knew we could help, so in 4 short days we planned a pub night tofundraise so we could help Erin with some of the costs of burying her husband. We invited friends of Gord and the McDougallfamily, our KW family and other realtors that know Mike well. The theme was hockey in honor of Gords love for hockey. We alsolearned at the funeral service before the pub night fundraiser that Gord was always involved in charity work and fundraisers evenat a young age. (He fit right in with our KW culture!) We held a silent auction that raised almost $3000 alone, we also held a 50/50draw that raised over $800 and had a donation jar out for anyone else that just wanted to donate. In total we raised $4000 in oneevening! Our leadership was receiving calls and emails asking how we can continue to help, so we sent out a form that would allowour MC to take either a dollar amount or percentage from individual commission cheques to go towards Mike and his family, in-cluding his brothers wife Erin.In a recent conversation with Mike, he asked me to include something from him, "Id like to thank my office, Keller WilliamsEnergy, for their continuous support. My Family and I are Truly touched by their generosity and thoughtfulness in this devastatingtime.Mike McDougall In a business that can be so competitive, and a world of too busy to slow down it doesnt surprise me that our KW family iswilling to step in and continue to lead generate for our own businesses but also for one of our agents so they can continue to havetheir clients served and an income generated while they take care of their family and mourn their loss. I am fortunate to be a partof this amazing company and outstanding family we have thats always growing and striving to help each other.
