On the occasion of the 2017 competition for $125,000 to support youth employment outcomes, LiveWorkPlay provided an update on their 2016 proposal to deliver 100 jobs for youth with intellectual disabilities! Using a strategy of engaging employment champions from local businesses and new marketing campaigns, the dramatic results were enthusiastically received by the panel of judges and live audience, just prior to the announcement of the 2017 recipient, Youth Ottawa and Social Planning Council of Ottawa.

  3. 3. The plan: using an enhanced volunteer task force strategy and new marketing tools to augment LiveWorkPlay employment services, secure 100 jobs for youth with intellectual disabilities in 2017! The results: 71 jobs and counting!
  4. 4. Where are the jobs? Sector surprises! 0 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 20 When our New Leaf proposal was delivered more than a year ago, it was part theory and part evidence that told us there was great potential to expand the number of people with intellectual disabilities working in office environments. While the expanded partnership with the federal government is the obvious factor in this positive development, we are seeing new opportunities in all sectors!

More Exciting Pie In The Sky News! • Completion of Customized Marketing Toolkit for Federal Government • Nearing completion of customized marketing for small and medium sized business (build in consultation with task force members) • Inclusion in FIVE videos completed by HireForTalent.ca and participation in national launch of campaign with Minister of Disability Kent Hehr • Lead partner in Ottawa launch of We Belong app that makes it easy for consumers to identify inclusive employers in their neighbourhood • Print and digital marketing campaign with Ottawa Business Journal • Next week: release of new bilingual video with ISED Canada in conjunction with UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities • Print marketing campaign with Ottawa Business Journal • Federal Government launching challenge with small and medium departments to hire people with intellectual disabilities • Recruitment of 30 new volunteers to expanded Employment Task Force(s) • Employment partner The WORKS Gourmet Burger Bistro to receive Celebration of People inclusive employer award on November 29
