  13. 15. Kit list <ul><li>Rucksack 50 - 60 litre with frame (max.). This can be provided by the school </li></ul><ul><li>Sleeping bag, sealed in strong bin liner. </li></ul><ul><li>Roll mat. </li></ul><ul><li>Tent. (per sleeping group) This will be provided by the school </li></ul><ul><li>Survival Bag. These will be provided by the school </li></ul><ul><li>First aid kit: (triangular bandage/tape/safety pins/personal </li></ul><ul><li>medicine/antiseptic). </li></ul><ul><li>Water bottles (2x1litre). </li></ul><ul><li>Spare plastic bags. </li></ul><ul><li>Rubbish Bags </li></ul><ul><li>Cooking stove (per camping group) This will be provided the school </li></ul><ul><li>Fuel bottle (per camping group) This will be provided by the school </li></ul><ul><li>Spoon, Knife & Fork. </li></ul><ul><li>Mug. </li></ul><ul><li>Bowl/Plates. </li></ul><ul><li>Wash-up kit. </li></ul><ul><li>Food (details to follow). </li></ul><ul><li>Whistle. </li></ul><ul><li>Torch, including spare bulb and batteries. </li></ul><ul><li>Emergency rations such as chocolate (200g, must be Shown at the end of an expedition). </li></ul><ul><li>Notebook and pencil (works in rain and upside down!). </li></ul><ul><li>Wash kit/towel/toilet paper- try to get biodegradable /wet wipes. </li></ul><ul><li>Trousers (lightweight, quick drying - no jeans.) </li></ul><ul><li>Shirts (wool?)/undershirts </li></ul><ul><li>Jumpers (wool – 2 thin better than 1 thick)/fleeces </li></ul><ul><li>Underclothes </li></ul><ul><li>Socks – very good quality, 1 or 2 fresh pairs per day. </li></ul><ul><li>Spare clothes, sealed in plastic Personal emergency clothing should be sealed in a plastic bag and ONLY used for emergencies while walking. They can however be used in camp but they MUST not get wet and they must be resealed in the plastic bag while walking. </li></ul><ul><li>Boots and spare laces (must be ankle supporting with good treads). </li></ul><ul><li>Gloves – wool? </li></ul><ul><li>Hat – beanie (wool). </li></ul><ul><li>Waterproof jacket and trousers Can be provided by the school. </li></ul><ul><li>Map and map case/bag </li></ul><ul><li>Compass </li></ul><ul><li>Cash for phone calls in emergencies </li></ul><ul><li>Mobile phone (sealed in plastic bag / envelope) </li></ul><ul><li>Food (will be discussed during nutrition training) </li></ul><ul><li>Packed lunches for each day. </li></ul><ul><li>Breakfast for each day </li></ul><ul><li>Evening meal for each day except last day </li></ul><ul><li>Snacks / treats </li></ul>

Kit Costs <ul><li>The school has a lot of good kit to lend out. </li></ul><ul><li>It is your responsibility to bring it back in the condition you borrowed it. </li></ul><ul><li>The cost of the expeditions includes a £20 deposit which will be given back on return of the borrowed kit. </li></ul><ul><li>If group kit is not returned ALL of your group will lose their £20 </li></ul>

Expedition <ul><li>Bronze – 14km 10km, carrying kit, camping and cooking meals for 2 days 1 night. </li></ul><ul><li>Silver – 18km 20km 14 km, carrying kit, camping and cooking meals for 3 days 2 nights. </li></ul><ul><li>All kit goes home to get cleaned and dried, then comes back to school the following DofE meeting. </li></ul>
  17. 19. Route cards and Maps <ul><li>You will plan your route on a map and complete a route card of each day of your expedition. </li></ul><ul><li>You will need 2 copies – one for your group and one for your assessor – to be handed to them 1 week before. </li></ul>

Your Focus <ul><li>Each expedition must have a focus </li></ul><ul><ul><li>http:// / </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Mon 16 th July you will give a presentation to the rest of the DofE students to showcase your focus and what you have learned on your expedition. </li></ul><ul><li>If successful in ALL FOUR areas you will receive your award! </li></ul>
  19. 21. <ul><li>You will receive your welcome pack at the end of the meeting. </li></ul><ul><li>Please ensure you have put your name on the register and given in your group list of 5-7 people </li></ul>

In taking part, participants develop: self-belief self-confidence a sense of identity independence - of thought and action a sense of responsibility an awareness of their potential new talents and abilities an understanding of strengths and weaknesses the ability to plan and use time effectively the ability to learn from and give to others in the community new relationships skills including problem solving, presentation and communication the ability to lead and work as part of a team
