The script demanded a dry location: an agriculturalvillage where it had not rained in several years. This is the story about the resilience shown by theIndians when they were under the British Rule. The story goes like this...There is no rain in the villagesince a year. The villagers who depend on rain forfarming are unable to pay the lagaan to the rulerCaptain Russel. They are already taxed to the bone by the British andtheir cronies, but when Jack Russell announces thathe will double the Lagaan (tax) from all villagers,they decide to oppose it. Leading the villagers is a handsome young mannamed Bhuvan, who challenges them to agame of cricket.
