Raising children, god’s way!

  2. 2. God’s Plan Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you declares the LORD. They are plans to prosper and not to harm you. They are plans to give you hope and a future.
  3. 3. God’s Plan
  4. 4. God’s Plan
  5. 5. God’s Plan
  6. 6. God’s Plan
  7. 7. God’s Plan If God has such great plans for us, with amazing outcomes; then why is the world in such a mess?
  8. 8. God’s Plan
  9. 9. God’s Plan
  10. 10. God’s Plan
  11. 11. Our Choice Deuteronomy 30:19 Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessing and curses. Now Icall on heaven and earth to witness the choice that you make.Oh that you would choose life so that you and your descendants might live!
  12. 12. Our Choice Why is it so hard for us to choose life?
  13. 13. The Effect of Sin (Romans 7: 14-20)14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15 I do not understand what I do.For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law isgood. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it issin living in me. 18 I know that nothing good lives in me,that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do whatis good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For what I do is not thegood I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do-this Ikeep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it isno longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
  14. 14. The Effect of Sin (Romans 7: 21-25)21 So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil isright there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight inGods law; 23 but I see another law at work in themembers of my body, waging war against the law of mymind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at workwithin my members. 24 What a wretched man I am! Whowill rescue me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be toGod-through Jesus Christ our Lord!So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to Gods law, but inthe sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
  15. 15. Choose to be mature Warning Against Falling Away11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. 12 In fact, though by thistime you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teachyou the elementary truths of Gods word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews 5:11-14
  16. 16. How do we become mature• Ephesians 1:3 • Every spiritual gift is ours• 1 Corinthians 11:1 • We need to follow the example of Christ, so that others can follow our example.• 2 Timothy 2:15 • Study to show yourself approved
  17. 17. Make disciples• Matthew 28:19-20• To make disciples, • We need to be disciplined in the ways of the LORD • We need to be teachable • Hosea 4:6 You priests have rejected me, and my people are destroyed by refusing to obey. Now Ill reject you and forget your children, because you have forgotten my Law.• Jesus was the ultimate disciple • John 5:19 • John 7:16 • John 8:26 • Etc.
  18. 18. Training Your Child 6Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6
  19. 19. Train your Child4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with allyour soul and with all your strength. 6 Thesecommandments that I give you today are to be upon yourhearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about themwhen you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them assymbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.9 Write them on the door-frames of your houses and onyour gates. Deuteronomy 6:4-9
  20. 20. Train up Your childIf you don’t take up that responsibility, someone else will.Sigmund Freud, renowned Psychologist, said that most ofour troubles, which we experience as adults, can be tracedback to our childhood. If you are not influencing your child, who is?John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill anddestroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it tothe full.
  21. 21. Influence of this world
  22. 22. Tips for home• God has a plan • Pray and ask God for guidance as to how to lead your child.• We need to be mature and disciplined so that our children can become mature and disciplined in the ways of the LORD• Parents need to be a team • Do not be unequally yoked • Share the message that God has given you concerning your child to your spouse • You are God’s representative• Declare God’s word over your Children
