  2. 2. What are Good Manners? Courtesy, politeness or having good manners are all about respecting others and yourself.
  3. 3. How would you feel if someone: talked to your friend but turned his/her back on you?
  4. 4. Or if someone… pushed you out of the way to get the seat you were about to sit on?
  5. 5. Or if someone… let the door slam in your face as you were about to walk through it?
  6. 6. Or if someone… shared your things but never shared anything of theirs?
  7. 7. Or if someone… never said 'please’, ‘excuse me’, or 'thank you‘?
  8. 8. Good manners is about considering the feelings of other people, and being the kind of person that others will like and respect.
  9. 9. In the 'olden days' children were taught about the Golden Rule:
  10. 10. Or in simpler words:
  11. 11. To make it simple: If you show good manners everywhere you go… then you are more likely to encourage others to behave in the same way towards you.

  13. 13. What good manners look like at home... Being helpful to others in your home
  14. 14. What good manners look like at home... saying 'please' and 'thank you'
  15. 15. What good manners look like at home... sharing, and not grabbing and keeping good things to yourself
  16. 16. What good manners look like at home... respecting other people's property and their rooms
  17. 17. What good manners look like at home... helping the family by doing your chores
  18. 18. What good manners look like at home... cleaning up after yourself.

  20. 20. Manners in School… saying “good morning/ afternoon” if you are walking past an adult who you know
  21. 21. Manners in School… asking if you can borrow or have something, not just taking without asking permission
  22. 22. Manners at School… returning things that you have borrowed
  23. 23. Manners at School… waiting your turn before you speak
  24. 24. Manners at School… saying 'excuse me,' rather than pushing past someone
  25. 25. Manners at School… holding the door open for the person coming in, especially if he is carrying something
  26. 26. Manners at School… respecting your own and other people's property, especially school property
  27. 27. Manners at School… saying 'please' and 'thank you'
  28. 28. Manners in School… Be polite to others. Don't make fun of anyone - everyone has feelings.
  29. 29. Manners in School… Don't use bad language - it is offensive to others.
  30. 30. Manners at School… Put your rubbish into bins, don't leave it for someone else to clean up.
  31. 31. Having good manners makes you a pleasant person to be around. Wherever you go, it is up to you to give a good impression of yourself, your school, your sports team, your group and your family. Behaving badly doesn't just give a bad impression of yourself.
  32. 32. Manners Manners! Manners! Don't be rude; be nice. Manners will make your brain think twice! Chew with your mouth closed. Don’t leave your uvula exposed! Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze. Use your manners around other people, please. In the shops, or even at the beach. Use them and people will think you're a peach. If it's sunny or raining, in the shops or at dinner Use your manners and you'll be a winner!
