A Year of Change <ul><li>This was a year of change in the library, and rebranding the facility as the information center of the school. </li></ul><ul><li>New flexible floor plan instituted along with new shelving. </li></ul><ul><li>Many new technologies brought into the library. </li></ul><ul><li>Most importantly, more students accessed the library. </li></ul>

  6. 7. Library Usage Analysis <ul><li>March was by the far biggest month in terms of students in the library. This is a result most likely of there being no vacations that month and it being the end of third quarter. </li></ul><ul><li>The number of classes served is around the same as last year (357 in 2011, 344 in 2010). However, the new floor plan allows the library to be open to other students when a class is in. Thus, an increase in the number of students using the library. </li></ul><ul><li>The English and Social Studies departments are the biggest users of the library. </li></ul>

Book Acquisitions <ul><li>444 Books were added to the collection this year. </li></ul><ul><li>There are about 150 more books to be cataloged and added to the collection, but running the library solo has left little time for cataloging. </li></ul><ul><li>Eric Wilska at The Bookloft was incredibly generous and donated many new titles to the library throughout the year. It has created a wonderful community partnership. </li></ul>

Electronic Resources <ul><li>Huge changes in the library technologically: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>2 New Macbooks added for video editing, both loaded with iMovie, one with Final Cut Pro </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>10 new flat screen monitors for the desktops </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>8 new laptops </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>50” flat screen TV added for running announcements </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>4 cameras purchased (3 Flip, 1 Sanyo) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>3 Kindles added to the collection </li></ul></ul>

Grants and Budget <ul><li>Much of the technology was purchased through grants and endowments. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>New monitors for desktops: The Student Senate Tag Sale Fund </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Flat screen TV: Donated by a family </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Macbooks, Video Editing software, and Kindles: endowed by Lisa Baldwin and the Kapteyn Fund </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Flip video cameras came out of the library budget </li></ul>

Program Highlights: Arts and Ideas Forums <ul><li>Gil Jackson : Cherokee Language </li></ul><ul><li>Bobby Houston : Filmmaker and Academy Award winner for his documentary Mighty Times: The Children’s March </li></ul><ul><li>Eric Stoner : from the group Waging Non-Violence sharing stories from his time in Afghanistan </li></ul><ul><li>The Interlopers : a student band for a musical Arts and Ideas </li></ul>

Professional Development <ul><li>The library hosted a series of mini-workshops on ways to integrate technology and library resources into the curriculum. </li></ul><ul><li>The topics were: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Ten Minute Tip #1:   Beyond Powerpoint: Animoto, Prezi, and Glogster </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>  Ten Minute Tip #2 : Streaming Video Sites and How to Splice a YouTube Video </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>  Ten Minute Tip #3 : Ways to Use Flip Video Cameras in the Classroom </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>  Ten Minute Tip #4 : Organizing Research: NoodleTools and Evernote </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>  Ten Minute Tip #5 : Google Tips and Tricks </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>  Ten Minute Tip #6 : How To Do Voice Narration and Recordings </li></ul></ul><ul><li>These can be accessed via the library website at: http://sites.google.com/site/monumentmountainlibrary/homepage/ten-minute-tips </li></ul>
  21. 27. Goals for 2011-2012 <ul><li>With the coming of student wireless access, I need to be able to have the library be on their computers. This means: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Finalize the library webpage </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Upgrade to a web-based catalog such as Follett Destiny </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Continue to build a culture of reading at Monument through the faculty and student book clubs </li></ul><ul><li>Build collaborative lessons with teachers on research and information literacy skills, making the library not just a place for classes to come to use the computers but also a place for instruction. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>This requires coming up with a better “classroom” space within the library. That space is currently right by the main entrance to the library and it can be disruptive with people coming and going. </li></ul></ul>
