  2. 2. Ingredients<br />¼ oz. dry yeast<br />½ cup warm water<br />2 cups buttermilk<br />5 ½ cups flour<br />¼ cup sugar<br />1 ½ tbsp. baking powder<br />1 ½ tsp. salt<br />½ tsp. baking soda<br />¾ cup shortening<br />2 pounds sliced ham<br />
  3. 3. Combine yeast and water, let stand for 5 minutes.<br />
  4. 4. Stir in buttermilk.<br />
  5. 5. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda in a large bowl.<br />
  6. 6. Cut in shortening with 2 forks until mixture resembles coarse meal.<br />
