  1. 1. The Asthma Toolkit for School Aged Children for Providers: Prevention and Management By: Amy Cullen RN, SAPRN, Paige Gross, RN, SAPRN, Lauren McDonald, RN, SAPRN, Katie O’Donnell, RN, SAPRN, & Lauren Walters, RN, SAPRN
  2. 2. Introduction This toolkit was designed with the audience intended for use kept in mind. In today’s era of healthcare, many providers are working overtime to keep up with the demands of their daily schedules and large patient panels. The idea of taking extra time from one’s busy schedule to read many pages of information surrounding the use of a new toolkit may not seem realistic or desirable to a busy healthcare provider, thus, we have attempted to make this toolkit as user friendly and efficient as possible for the busy healthcare provider caring for school aged asthmatic patients. With high efficiency and ease and simplicity of use, it is hoped these qualities will increase provider interest for education on and implementation of this toolkit within their daily practice. The purpose of this toolkit is to provide resources for healthcare providers and school nurses that will support them in improving pediatric patients and their caregiver’s asthma self-management skills, awareness of environmental risk factors, and preventing and managing asthma attacks. With improvement in these realms, it is hoped childhood absenteeism in the Manchester, NH school system will decrease and overall quality of life for asthmatic patients and their families will be improved.
