  2. 2. They are Different!!! <ul><li>Learning occurs in natural environments as humans interact with environment and manipulate objects. </li></ul><ul><li>The learner needs to be engaged in a meaningful task. </li></ul><ul><li>--Meaningful Learning </li></ul>
  3. 3. Technology Use <ul><li>Technology use is when students use a form of technology that complements their learning, but they are not actively engaged with it. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>For example: the use of word processing and the overhead. </li></ul></ul>
  4. 4. Technology Integration <ul><li>Technology integration, as defined by the National Forum on Education Statistics (2005), Forum Unified Education Technology Suite, &quot;is the incorporation of technology resources and technology-based practices into the daily routines, work, and management of schools.&quot; </li></ul><ul><li>Resources are computers and specialized software, network-based communication systems, and other equipment and infrastructure. </li></ul>

Technology Integration <ul><li>According to Diane Quirk, technology can be used for &quot;information, images, interactions, and inquiry&quot; </li></ul><ul><li>Technology integration is when technology is incorporated into the daily routine. </li></ul><ul><li>It is integrated into lessons to enhance student engagement and learning of a topic. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Technology Can Be Integrated By: <ul><li>Blogs: Students can interact with the teacher and peers by participating in ongoing discussions on certain topics. Students are engaged with academic content while also using technology. </li></ul><ul><li>Other Forms of Integration: </li></ul><ul><li>Wiki </li></ul><ul><li>Interactive Whiteboards </li></ul><ul><li>Podcasting </li></ul><ul><li>YouTube </li></ul><ul><li>Google Earth </li></ul>
  7. 7. Why is technology in the classroom important? <ul><li>The world is becoming increasingly based upon technology. </li></ul><ul><li>As teachers, if we do not prepare out students with technology, we will not be providing them a valuable education. </li></ul>

Students today are exposed to a vast amount of information and technology early in their lives.
