Getting There...In 1905 Franklin married Eleanor.After graduating from Harvard he attended Columbia University LawSchool.In 1910 Roosevelt was elected as a Democrat to New York Senate.The Democratic Party chose Roosevelt to run for president in 1932.With the depression worsening Roosevelt promised a “New Deal” formillions of poor people.
    6. 6. As President...He won an easy victory over hisRepublican opponent, Herbert Hoover.By he time Roosevelt came in aspresident in March 1933 about 13 millionpeople were unemployed in the US.
    7. 7. After Catching Polio...Franklin always waswith a walking stick orin a wheelchair. Whenhe was on the news hiswheelchair would beunder a table clothedtable. No one wouldwant to think he was aweak president.
    8. 8. Second Term...Roosevelt easily won re-election in 1936.By the time he began his second term in1937 the economy had greatly improved.On December 7, 1941, Japan bombedU.S. military bases in Pearl Harbor,Hawaii. The U.S. entered W.W. II.

    10. 10. Third term...Roosevelt got re-elected in 1944.He was the only president with threeterms.
    11. 11. Fourth Term...When Roosevelt was elected his fourthterm, the war had taken in favor of theAllies, but Roosevelt’s health wasdeclining. His arteriosclerosis worsenedby the stress of serving as a war-timepresident.
    12. 12. The Passing of RooseveltFranklin D. Roosevelt died of a stroke athis vacation home in Warm Springs,Virginia in 1945.Roosevelt led us through the two crisesof the 1900’s the great Depression andW.W.II.
