A presentation I gave to the council's Innovation Forum on the roles and uses of social media, along with how the Community of Practice Platform has been used to support collaborative working across the council. It also provides a quick look at the future of the platform, including the development of the Knowledge Hub

  • Emphasis here on complementing existing tools, not replacing them. Getting started and using these tools isn’t difficult. In most cases they’re straightforward and easy to use, but the difficulty is getting them to work well. They require an ongoing commitment and don’t deliver instant rewards. However, they deliver small but incremental gains and progress comes from using them over time. There’s also a chance that people will post anything – we can’t have things like links to porn sites, or libellous comments. But we also have to trust people to be pretty responsible.
