1. 1. In this session, we will work with Oliver family persona. Amy Oliver mom. a programmer. Katie Oliver daughter. age 13. Tim Oliver son. age 7. Ben Oliver dad. a nurse. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION!
2. 2. On a weekend evening, Oliver family sits together around kitchen table to discuss their dinner menu throughout next week. Amy suggests chicken with broccoli for Monday. FAMILY PLANNER Have you ever struggled to choose a meal that everybody wants to eat? Tim says he’s got bored of eating spinach sidedishes in school cafeteria, so the family decides to go with broccoli instead.
3. 3. Amy is in the supermarket. She picks up chicken that all family members like, and looks for what she could make with it, and what she wants to serve with it. MENU HELPER System makes suggestion on couple of dishes using chicken. When Amy selects couple of them, system makes suggestion on matching side dishes that family mem- bers like. ? ?
4. 4. Amy is sitting on kitchen table making grocery list. System tells Amy about which items are in sale in Giant Eagle, and which items are cheaper in Aldi's. BUDGET PLANNER Amy plans next week's meal based on the information. As she makes the plan, the system shows the cost of each meal and the total cost of next week's meals. \$ \$ \$ \$ !!!
5. 5. Oliver family will eat out on Friday. Amy wonders if they have enough budget to go to an expensive Japanese restaurant her children really like. BUDGET PLANNER System tells Amy that she made extra saving from meal plan last week, so she has extra credit to spend on food. Amy decides to go to the Japanese restaurant. \$ \$ \$
6. 6. Amy is in her bed. System assists her to review her family’s eating pattern for last weeks. Amy senses too much carb. HEALTHY EATING PLANNER When Oliver family sits together around kitchen table to discuss next week’s meal plan, Amy makes suggestions of dishes that can balance out the carb. !
7. 7. HEALTHY EATING PLANNER Amy is in supermarket for her weekly shopping. She grabs pork tenderloin that is on sale. System makes suggestions of dishes throughout the week that would nutri- tionally balance out the high cholesterol. Amy selects a few dishes that family members like.
8. 8. Amy is in her bedroom making meal plan before she goes shopping. System assists her to set up different nutritional goals for family members. Her kids needs more calory because they play sports, her husband needs to eat low cholesterol, and Amy wants to lose 5 pounds. HEALTH GOAL PLANNER System makes suggestions of dishes and recipes that could accommodate these different needs. For example, fried chicken with cheese for her children, steamed chicken without cheese for her husband, half amount of steamed chicken with cheese for Amy.
9. 9. Tim is in school cafeteria looking for snack. System assists him to figure our what would be good snacks for his health goal of having more muscle. When Tim decides to eat chocolate milk, system gives him a star as award point. HEALTHY EATING PLANNER At the end of the month, family mem- bers sit together around the table. System shows how each of them are approaching their health goals. Tim collected many stars that are enough for him to get a book as a gift from his parents. milk milk chip
10. 10. Amy walks into kitchen and system informs her that she will need to go for food shopping in two days. But Amy is too busy these days. SHOPPING PLANNER System makes suggestions of modified meal plan based on ingredients that she has at home, so that her family will have enough food until she will have time in the weekend.
11. 11. Ben is in supermarket for shopping. He sees fresh broccoli on sale. System assists him to figure our what's in the storage at home, and makes suggestions of dishes he could make using broccoli and ingredients at home. SHOPPING HELPER When Ben selects couple of dishes, system automatically generates shopping list for other ingredients he needs to buy in order to make the dishes. ?
12. 12. Ben has to go to Office Depot nearby Giant Eagle. He wonders if there's anything that he can buy. SHOPPING HELPER System suggests a shopping list for Giant Eagle, and tells him that if he buys them today his wife won’t need to go to shopping for 3 more days.
13. 13. Ben is in supermarket for shopping. His wife asked him to buy raisins, but Ben sees that the supermarket ran out of raisins. He is not sure what to buy instead. SHOPPING HELPER System assists him to figure out that Amy wanted the raisins for making salad. System recommends dried cranberries as substitute that she sometimes uses for the salad. Ben picks them up.
14. 14. Amy is very busy this week and next week. She can’t spend too much time in neither meal planning nor cooking. AUTOMATED MEAL OPTIMIZER System searches database of Amy’s comfort dishes. Then it automatically generates sets of optimal dishes through- out next week, based on budget goal and health goal she had previously set up, what they have at home, family schedule, children’s school meal plan, and quick- and-easiness to prepare. 15. 15. NEW MENU RECOMMENDER Amy wants to try something new tonight, but not sure whether picky Tim will like it. System makes recommendations based on ingredients at home and family members’ taste preference. When Amy selects one of it, Amy sees that it is highly likely that Tim will like it, based on his past rating patterns on dishes. Everybody liked the new dish, and Tim gave such high rating that system asks Amy if wants to add this new dish to her repertoire, Amy feels good. ?
16. 16. Amy is sitting on the kitchen table to plan for next week's meal. Oliver family will have a family trip next week. She is concerned that certain items in the refrigerator might spoil while they travel. SCHEDULE-BASED MEAL PLANNER System assists her to figure out that they have eggs, open milk, cottage cheese, and orange juice. System makes recommendations of dishes that they can most effectively use these. It also recommends family members to eat these items when they open refrig- erator for snack.
17. 17. Ben is in kitchen and he's in a hurry. Today Tim got a music concert ticket from his friend, which is unanticipated schedule change. Family dinner today has to be in real hurry. EMEGENCY DISH RECOMMENDER Based on the family meal plan they set up previously, system automatically calculates ingredients at home, price, nutrition factor, taste preference, leftovers, and expiration dates to make recommendations of dishes Ben could quickly make.
18. 18. Ben, Katie, and Tim are in the kitchen. Mom has a schedule and had told them she will be late today. They want to start some cooking for her. FAMILY COOKING PLANNER System shows the dishes mom had planned for today, mom's recipe, and where she keeps the ingredients. And then the system show them step-by- step of how to start preparation.
19. 19. FAMILY COOKING HELPER Ben and Katie are in the kitchen to prepare dinner. Today, mom's schedule unexpectedly changed and she cannot be at home for dinner. Little Tim is also away for his friend's birthday party. System searches the database of dad’s specialty dishes. And then it makes recommendations of menu based on ingredients at home, nutrition, price, and Ben and Katie's taste preference. Ben and Katie select chicken curry, which they really like but Amy and Tim doesn’t much.
20. 20. Amy is cleaning the table after dinner. Today Tim didn’t feel like eating, so she has much amount of leftover. LEFTOVER PLANNER System assists Amy to flexibly change the meal plan based on leftovers. It automatically calculates cost, nutrition factors, and expiration date for the leftover. And then it makes recommen- dations of what Amy could make with those leftovers, and on which day she would serve them.
