  • #7 Get to Know your Academic Advisor It cannot be stressed enough how important it is for you to get to know your advisor and use he/she as a resource. An advisor can be the difference that ensures you’ll graduate in four years by providing you with valuable information. It is recommended that by the end of the first week of classes, you have scheduled your appointment for fall advising. If you don’t know who your advisor is you can check MyBGSU
  • #6 Find your Home Base Living off-campus can mean long days when you pack everything and lug it around campus all day long. This can wear at your patience. It is really important that you find an environment on campus where you feel comfortable and can be productive during down time. The Hazel Smith Off-Campus Lounge is located on the second floor of this building. We will finish our presentation today by touring the location, but I want to point out that this lounge is geared toward the needs of off-campus students. The lounge is open when the Union is open, it contains a kitchenette, refrigerator, lockers, computer, telephone and posting board. To acquire a locker you will need to register at the Information Desk - free All amenities in the lounge are free and subject to change based on the needs of students and their requests There have been no reported issues with food being taken from the refrigerator. OTHER CAMPUS HOME BASES: Library BTSU Olscamp Differences in noise level, computer access (wireless), food options, comfort (tables and chairs vs. couches). Your academic building may serve as your home base, and that is fine, the key is ensuring that you find one! Coffee shops and eateries off-campus as well
