David has more than 20 years experience in merchant banking, corporate and project finance
advisory services, institutional investment, and consulting. He gained his experience in
Southern Africa (Botswana, Malaŵi, Moçambique, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe),
East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda) and West Africa (Ghana and Nigeria). He has
also worked in Australia, on a one-month secondment.
David has a wide range of banking, financial and investment experience, at an executive or
senior management level. He has skills in strategic visioning and implementation, capacity
building and training, cross-border investment, enterprise restructuring, commercialisation
and privatisation of State-owned enterprises, promotion of venture capital and private equity,
project feasibility studies and project finance, and capital market development.
David’s client base has included entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized enterprises and
established corporate players, including domestic, regional and international operators.
Public sector clients have included Government Ministries, Agencies, Municipalities and

David ran NMB’s Advisory Services, overseeing 10 professional staff involved in: corporate
and project finance, financial planning, trusts and estates, structured finance and investment
management. Career highlights included directing NMB’s 13-for-1 share split, as well as
NMB’s share buy-back scheme. David prepared documents for the Zimbabwe Stock
Exchange and the London Stock Exchange for NMB’s proposed acquisition of another
investment bank. He authored and implemented NMB’s internationalisation strategic plan.

David ran First Bank’s Investment Banking function, which included coordinating and
issuing of revenue anticipation bonds and revenue anticipation notes, on behalf of local
government municipalities and parastatals. He engineered currency swaps and pre-export
finance contracts for clients, in addition to providing advice to the Bank’s parent and
associate companies. David directed the initial planning and produced preliminary
documentation, ultimately leading to First Bank’s listing on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange.

Owner/Director of and Independent Financial Advisory Practice
David established and ran an independent financial advisory consultancy practice, providing
value-added services to a multi-faceted client base. He was involved in the
conceptualisation, design and review of business and investment plans, the development of a
business partnering, project promotion and joint venturing network, and the promotion of
cross-border investment, based on assessments of regional trade flows.
Aujan Southern African Developments (Private) Limited Jan 1998 – Apr 2000
David established and ran a Saudi Arabian-sponsored, regionally-based, private equity and
venture capital fund. His duties included overseeing corporate and human resources
management of Head Office staff and group subsidiaries. Mainstream work included strategy
formulation and portfolio structuring, project identification and processing, due diligence,
negotiation/documentation, financial structuring, closure, and post-transaction oversight.

David was head hunted, with partnership prospects, to establish what would become C&L’s
regionally-based corporate finance practice. The practice catered to corporate and public
sector clients, as well as Non-Governmental Organisations and International Lending
Agencies. David also liaised routinely with investment promotion centres, banks and
non-banking financial intermediaries, providing a wide range of commercial, economic and
financial services. He was staff partner for C&L’s management consultancy practice.

David has lectured various subjects at undergraduate and post-graduate levels at the
University of Zimbabwe, where he also ran the Executive Development Programme, for one
year. He was part of a team that localised the examinations of the Institute of Bankers of
Zimbabwe (IOBZ), and presently moderates various IOBZ examinations. David has been a
guest speaker at several conferences, within and outside Africa, on a variety of topics.
