  2. 2. Death penalty• The death penalty, also known as Capital Punishment, is punishment by death for a crime.• 42 people have been executed this year so far.• There are currently 58 people on federal death row.
  3. 3. Are there flaws in the death penalty?• Discrimination and racial profiling is proof that a new system is needed.• A lifelong prison sentence can prove more cruel then a speedy execution.• Abolishing Capital Punishment would tell the public that our laws are incapable of delivering what most Americans consider genuine justice.
  4. 4. Does race affect punishment?• In the 1980’s the college of law found that 10 of 16 men were minorities.• Of the 58 people on federal death row, 23 are white, while roughly 35 are minorities.
  5. 5. Does gender affect death penalty?• On average women are arrested 13 percent of all murders committed in the U.S.• According to the NAACP only 8 women were executed in the U.S. between 1977 and 2001, while 741 men were executed.
  6. 6. How does being legally insane affect death penalty?• Insanity is a fair defense against murder.• Supreme court says executing the insane is unconstitutional.• The insanity defense is seldom attempted and seldom succeeded.
  7. 7. What crimes cause death penalties?• In some cases kidnapping, rape, armed robbery and treason.• Nowadays only first degree murder followed by other factors cause death penalty.
  8. 8. Lawyer• Lawyers represent clients in criminal and civil litigation and other legal proceedings. Lawyers also draw up legal documents and advise clients on legal transactions.• The average salary is $112,800.• Some related careers are a judge, teacher, law clerk, legislator or researcher.
  9. 9. High school career academics.• River Hill High School.• I chose Marketing Academy.• Lawyers usually work with businesses so I need to know about marketing trends and campaigns.

Georgetown University• Georgetown University is in Washington D.C.• The yearly tuition is $41,393.• Some program requirements are a high school diploma, and the required units are English 4, Foreign Language 2, History 2, Math 2, Science 1, and Social Studies 2.• The minimum GPA required is a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and they have a division 1 basketball team.
  11. 11. Community Service• I’ve worked at a homeless shelter, volunteered to work at a soup kitchen and picked up litter.• I feel that everyone should help the needy once in a while. I’ve seen a lot of litter around streets and parks lately, so I decided to get some friends and pick up trash around the community.
