Texting while driving Matz

  1. 1.  Texting while driving is said to be more dangerous than drunk driving.  Studies show that hands free headsets are a good alternative and are less dangerous then texting or talking on the phone.  More people talk on their phone and use other electronic gadgets in the car then drive drunk.
  2. 2.  “Distracted Driving is a menace to society. And it seems to be getting worse every year.” (“Texting while driving: The New Drunk Driving”)  One in seven people have texted while driving at one point or another.
  3. 3.  6,000 people die or get injured a year due to texting while driving.  More then 250 million people in the last decade worldwide have died or become badly injured due to texting while driving.
  4. 4.  In the back country › There is less traffic. › Teens think it is okay because of the open space.  At a stoplight › The car is stopped. › Influential characters, such as parents, often text or call at stoplights.
  5. 5.  28 percent of crashes involve cell phone use. › This is 23 percent more then non- distracted crashes.
  6. 6.  Teens › 15-20 years old  Adults › The younger adult age set.
  7. 7.  Two thirds of people surveyed admitted to talking on their phones while driving.  One in seven people have texted while driving.  6 percent of drivers at any time are on the phone.
  8. 8.  My career is a lawyer. It is associated with my research project because people need lawyers after being charged with distracted driving. › Salary- up to $200,000 per year or more. › You could move up in this career, for example from the local government to the state government to the federal government.
  9. 9.  This career has a lot of potential for advancement. It is advancing at 13% from 2008 to 2018.  Related careers- Attorneys, Judges and Law clerks
  10. 10.  I am going to Atholton High School.  I picked the career academy Emergency Medical Technician.  I picked it because I like to work with people and I would like to save lives.
  11. 11.  It is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania  The tuition is $51,944  To be in the law program at Penn you must hold a bachelors degree. You must also be familiar with the American Bar Association because you will be taking the bar exam after law school.
  12. 12.  The number of students for the 2010/11 year are 24,599 students.  The acceptance rate is about 17.7%  Their mascot is the Quaker.  Their colors are red and blue.
