  16. 16.  The data for Uttarakhand relating to population, water supply, sewage generated, STP operational/proposed is available. Detailed data is available for Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srinagar. The BOD load to Ganga River basin by towns/cities of Uttarakhand is 83489 kg/d, 72281 kg/d is disposed in rivers. Only 20% or even less sewage is getting treated. The secondary data available from govt. agencies about population differs from the census data. The list of towns for data collection should be reconsidered for revision. The WQI for Haridwar, Rishikesh, Devprayag was calculated. Ganga was found clean in upper stretches and not suitable for bathing and drinking Haridwar. Floating population contributes noticeable quantity of sewage in this region. Early calculation shows, Himachal contributes 3080 kg/d BOD load for disposal. A total of 9581 kg/d BOD load is generated.
