  5. 5. Identify and access a relevant resource <ul><li>Look at the scope of the databases – TIP:UWC Link database categories </li></ul><ul><li>Bibliographic/fulltext </li></ul><ul><li>Subject specific or multidisciplinary </li></ul><ul><li>Log in </li></ul>

Construct and execute your search <ul><li>Combine keywords using AND, OR or NOT </li></ul><ul><li>Select fields to search – e.g. author, title, subject etc. or use default </li></ul><ul><li>May use limiters – e.g. date of publication, language, type of publication, peer-reviewed only, full-text only etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Truncation </li></ul><ul><li>Execute - Press enter </li></ul>
  7. 7. View your results <ul><li>Scan and evaluate the results list </li></ul><ul><li>View individual records – citation, abstract </li></ul><ul><li>Too little or too many? REPEAT your search </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Refine your search using different parameters </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Identify individual records and search according to their subjects or authors </li></ul></ul>

Retrieve results <ul><li>FULLTEXT: Obtain fulltext from the results list or the individual records </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Email, print, save </li></ul></ul><ul><li>NO FULLTEXT: Obtain bibliographic details from the results list of individual record </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Email, print, save bibliographic details </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Obtain fulltext – check ejournals list, print holdings in the library or request via Interlibrary loan </li></ul></ul>
