Caleb Carr<br />Caleb Carr was born in New York City, on August 2, 1955. <br />Raised in the lower east side of Manhattan.<br />Carr completed received his Bachelors of Arts in History at New York University. <br />Covered works on mostly Central American as a journalist.<br />He co-wrote his first non-fiction book, America Invulnerable: The Quest for Absolute Security from 1812 to Star Wars, in 1989. <br />Carr also works in film and theater. He co-wrote for Exorcist: The Beginning and Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist in 2004 and 2005<br />The Alienist became one of his bestselling novels. <br />

Themes<br />Takes place in late 19th century, New York City. <br />Theodore Roosevelt is the police commissioner and puts together a team to try and capture a serial killer.<br />He loses personal friends of the team to the hands of the killer. After near-death experiences, the team captures the serial killer.<br />Dr. Kreizler and Lucius perform an autopsy to help them understand the nuero-anatomy of the serial killer.<br />They find no physical brain deteriorationand proves Kreizler’s theory. <br />

Mariano Azuela<br />Mariano Azuela was born in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, in 1873.<br />Azuela received his degree in literature and medicine in Guadalajara in 1899.<br />Azuela set up a practice in Lagos de Moreno. <br />He joined Madero’s revolution against PorfirioDíaz and was named jefepolítico in his home town of Lagos se Moreno, after Madero's success.<br />Azuela left politics but continued his career in the medical and literary scene.<br />He set up free clinics for the needy and wrote novels.<br />In 1952 he had a fatal heart attack in Mexico City.<br />
  7. 7. Characters<br />Demetrio Macías leads a group of men in the fight against federales of Victoriano Huerta. He is a skilled marksman and a great leader in battle. <br />Luis Cervantes is he newest member to Macias’ gang. He is recruited to fight in the Federale army but abandoned them after he got offended. He studies medicine and a journalism. He ends up fleeing Mexico to the United States.<br />
  8. 8. Themes<br />Azuela leaves the reader with the image of him still fighting.<br />Regular people standing up for what they believe in.<br />The revolutionaries goal was to cleanse their country of tyranny and end up becoming crooked themselves.<br />
