  2. 2. Skeletal System <ul><li>The hard structure that provides a frame for the body. </li></ul>
  3. 3. How Does It Help? <ul><li>The main job, of the Skeletal System, is to provide support for our body. </li></ul><ul><li>It protects our internal organs and fragile body tissue. </li></ul><ul><li>Example: Your cranium protects your brain and eyes. </li></ul><ul><li>It helps us be able to move. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Without the Skeletal System <ul><li>You would collapse and be a puddle of skin and organs. </li></ul>
  5. 5. What Is a Bone Made of? <ul><li>The first layer is the Compact Bone , which is strong and tough. </li></ul><ul><li>The second layer is Spongy Bone , which is lighter and slightly flexible. </li></ul><ul><li>The third, and last layer, is the Bone Marrow , which is jelly like and where new cells are constantly being produced for the blood. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Bones <ul><li>When you are born, you have about 300 bones in your body. </li></ul><ul><li>As you grow, your bones fuse together to make bigger bones. </li></ul><ul><li>When you are fully grown, you have about 206 bones in your body. </li></ul>
  7. 7. How to Keep It Healthy? <ul><li>Bones need regular exercise to stay as strong as possible. Walking, riding your bike, basketball, soccer, dancing, skate-boarding and other activities are all good for your bones. Don't forget to use helmets, knee-pads, and shin guards keep you and your bones safe. </li></ul><ul><li>Strengthen your Skeleton by drinking milk and eating other dairy products. They all contain calcium, which helps bones harden and become strong. </li></ul>
