  15. 15. Anime Manga and Graphic Novels These books are effective because they effectively combine print and visual literacy in a mutually complimentary manner. In addition they support vocabulary development, help improve reading comprehension and motivate kids to read.
  16. 16. Mystery and Suspense Books Reluctant readers begin reading Hi-Low books and eventually progress to reading YA and adult books
  17. 17. Street Literature/Urban Fiction These books are very popular with students because they serve as real life cautionary tales. The stories are interesting, fast paced and reflect life in urban/inner city enclaves.
