  • 2 Million Amputees 507 Amputations/Day Leading Causes: Diabetes/Vascular Disease 60% of amputations are preventable ACA is unique A WARENESS: The vast majority of those affected by limb loss will know of the Amputee Coalition and understand the value of being a part of the Amputee Coalition community because of educational, social networking, philanthropic and outreach programs that are easily accessible to them through the Amputee Coalition. I MPACT: Amputee Coalition-led collaborations, programs, relationship-building and strategic alliances among nonprofit, commercial and governmental organizations will create changes in healthcare delivery that ensure all amputee patients and their families in the U.S. have access to and receive quality care, support and information for both pre- and post-limb loss. M EMBER SERVICES: The Amputee Coalition will provide meaningful services and programs that make lifelong membership in the Amputee Coalition desirable to amputees across America. S USTAINABILITY: Amputee Coalition-led collaborations and strategic alliances among nonprofit, commercial and governmental organizations will increase funding for the full spectrum of our services – with the aim of increasing knowledge applicable to creating a vibrant, healthy limb loss community and robust limb loss prevention initiatives.
  • 507 Amputations each day in the US—most are from Diabetes and Vascular Disease An estimated 60% of amputations are preventable. Patients who are active participants in their care, ask informed questions and contribute to the decision-making process tend to have better outcomes than do those who do not. 75% of acquired pediatric amputations are from trauma--most notable is that on average 600 children lose a limb to a lawnmower accident each year.
