Basic Information➡ Birth name: Henri-Émile-Benoît Matisse➡ Born on December 31st, 1869 in Le Cateau-Cambrésis, Nord, France➡ In 1887, Matisse went to Paris to study Law, and gained his qualification➡ Matisse first started to paint in 1889, after his mother bought him supplies➡ In 1891, Matisse returned to Paris to study art at the Académie Julian➡ Matisse was a draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor, but is knownprimarily as a painter➡ Matisse’s early paintings were mostly bowls of fruit and flowers, and hislater paintings from 1904-1917 became paintings of people and landscapes➡ Died on November 3rd, 1954 (aged 84) in Nice, Alpes-Maritimes

Matisse is commonly regarded along with Picasso and Marcel Duchanp, as one of the three artists who helped to define the revolutionary developments in the plastic arts during the 20th century. His style is Fauvism with means “wild beast”.
