The hot toddy originated in Scotland in the 1700’s. Known for its supposed medicinal qualities, the
drink is usually made with a mixture of whisky, spices and honey. If you’re looking for stave off a cold
or would just like a comforting, warm night cap, here are a few suggestions of what’s available to
you.

1 tbsp. honey
½ small lemon
1 orange wedge

• Coat the bottom of the mug with honey
• Juice the lemon & pour into the mug
• Heat some water in a pan on the stove
• Stud the orange wedge with the cloves
• Add the teabag and orange wedge to the water
• Leave for 5 minutes
• Remove the tea bag and orange wedge & pour the liquid into the mug
2. Traditional Whisky Hot Toddy
Ingredients
1 tsp. honey

1 clove
1 cardamom pod
1 strip lemon peel

30 ml apple cider (I like the cloudy, scrumpy type but it’s up to you)

½ small lemon
A cinnamon stick and star anise to garnish

• Add the whisky and cider
