Climatic Changes And Global Warming
Climatic changes and global warming are the major issues of 21st century. Guava tolerates a wide
range of climates, provided they are frost–free (Menzel, 1995). Rainfall fluctuations, high
temperature, drought occurrence, soil, poor sunlight and air are the limiting factors in guava
production. Guava fruits are an excellent source of ascorbic acid, dietary fiber, antioxidants,
carotenoids, calcium and contains a lot of nutrients such as vitamin A and C which are present in
quantities 3–6 times more as compared to oranges (Temple, 2000). This fruit also contains a large
amount of citric, lactic, malic, oxalic and acetic acids (Rahman et al., 2003). It has great importance
due to its aroma, sweet taste, balance of acid base and delicious ... Show more content on

Faulty and diseased nursery plants and old non–standardized method of plant propagation are
creating hindrance to guava industry (Singh et al., 2005). Bad quality seedling, improper cultural
practices and lack of planting material are root causes of guava yield and productivity decline. Initial
nursery planting materials and healthy plants are pre–requisite for healthy guava orchards, because
final yield and quality depends on healthy quality seedlings (Singh et al., 2005). Growth and
productivity of guava is affected by various factors including tree age, planting densities,
cultivation, insect, pests, diseases and mineral nutrition (Hammami et al., 2010). Reasons that are
responsible for low guava production in Pakistan include poor management, severe attack of fruit
fly on summer crop, post–harvest losses and occurrence of cross pollination. Food productivity is
decreasing due to detrimental effects of various biotic and abiotic stresses; therefore minimizing
these losses is a major area of concern to ensure food security under changing climate.
Environmental abiotic stresses, such as drought, extreme temperature, cold, heavy metals, or high
salinity, severely impair plant growth and productivity worldwide. Among abiotic factors drought or
water deficit is one of major limitation factor for guava crop (Singh et al., 1997).

Bad quality seedling, improper cultural practices and lack of planting material are root causes of guava yield and productivity decline. Initial nursery planting materials and healthy plants are pre–requisite for healthy guava orchards, because final yield and quality depends on healthy quality seedlings (Singh et al., 2005). Growth and productivity of guava is affected by various factors including tree age, planting densities, cultivation, insect, pests, diseases and mineral nutrition (Hammami et al., 2010). Reasons that are responsible for low guava production in Pakistan include poor management, severe attack of fruit fly on summer crop, post–harvest losses and occurrence of cross pollination. Food productivity is decreasing due to detrimental effects of various biotic and abiotic stresses; therefore minimizing these losses is a major area of concern to ensure food security under changing climate. Environmental abiotic stresses, such as drought, extreme temperature, cold, heavy metals, or high salinity, severely impair plant growth and productivity worldwide. Among abiotic factors drought or water deficit is one of major limitation factor for guava crop (Singh et al., 1997). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Majority of America views both Cubans, Mexicans, and all Hispanics as Mexicans. • 13. Iron Deficiency: A Major Public Health Problem in India Iron deficiency is considered a major public health problem in India. It has been shown that iron deficiency is common in school–aged children from North–India. As much as 50–70% of the children are estimated to be anemic. One study even shows that 90 % of the children were found to be below the cut–off point of the WHO of 120g Hb/L (Seshadri & Gopaldas,1989). Iron deficiency anemia, or anemia are associated with poorer cognition and learning capabilities. This may cause several complications such as psychosocial, economic and biomedical problems. Anemic children often cannot catch up with school achievements, but there is convincing evidence that iron treatment is beneficial for children with cognition problems (Grantham–McGregor & Ani, 2001). Especially The mung bean (Vigna radiata) is a bean often consumed in Indian populations. Mung beans are small green legumes that contain high amounts of fiber and protein. They fit very well in a vegetarian diet where people use the beans as a meat replacer, which is a common practice in India. In addition, mung beans are a good source of iron, with iron contents ranging between 4–8 mg of Fe/100g (Barakoti & Bains, 2007). Therefore they may have a positive effect on iron status in anemic populations. However, legumes do contain high amounts of phytate which decreases bioavailability of minerals. This is one of the main reasons for anemia, since Indian populations consume a lot of phytic acid through their diet (Nair, et al, 2013). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Disease Spread Of New Zealand Disease Risk Profiles Introduction: As the world progress in the trade and rapid human movement from one place to another, the spread of pathogens also progresses (WHO, 2001). There are many ways that a pathogen can get into a new country. Usually the entry of pathogen into New Zealand is less due to its geographical location. But, there are pathogens getting into the country. This might be because of an undetectable pathogen, pathogens with no symptoms and other related reasons. For better understanding of the mode of entry, the pathogen pathway and other properties of a pathogen we will consider a fungi Puccinia psidii and a virus called Plum pox. It is notable that the detection techniques, the means of disease spread varies from one pathogen to another. Puccinia psidii Geographical spread: Puccinia psidii is a fungi, indigenous to Brazil. The settings in this novel have an important influence on Esmeralda. They influence her behavior and change her ideals as an adult. Negi goes through many changes based on the challenges she faces by moving to new locations where society is different. All of these changes allow her to become a stronger person. When she lives in El Mangle, Negi has to face extreme prejudice against her upbringing as a jibara. When she leaves Puerto Rico to move to Brooklyn, she is forced to face an entirely different society. All of these events that took place in Esmeralda's childhood had a significant impact in shaping her into an adult. The guava fruit from the prologue, plays a central role in When I Was Puerto Rican. The guava symbolizes the end of Esmeralda's childhood and the beginning of adulthood. She states "I push my cart away, toward the apple and pears of my adulthood, their nearly seedless ripeness predictable and bittersweet"(Prologue, pg.4). The main idea that leaves the audience wondering is the change of situation and the cost of escape. Strawberry Guava And Its Impact On Hawaii Strawberry guava, Psidium cattleianum Sabine, is valued by the general public of Hawaii for its ornamental, straight, red bark and fleshy fruit, which is frequently prepared into jams, jellies, juices, cakes, and pastries. However, due to false advertising and commercialization, guava as well as coffee, macadamia, passion fruit, and pineapples are seen as icons of Hawaii, yet they aren't native to Hawaii. Even though these species aren't native to Hawaii, coffee, macadamia, passion fruit, and pineapples do not pose a serious threat to the native ecosystems of Hawaii, like the strawberry guava. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... cattleianum, is a highly invasive species that damages native Hawaiian forests, ecosystems, and the watershed, which can be managed through mechanical, chemical, and biological controls. In its native homeland of southeastern Brazil, the strawberry guava is limited, unlike Hawaii, where it forms monotypic stands that displace native Hawaiian flora and fauna and drive these indigenous, endemic, and endangered species towards extinction. Strawberry guava contributes further to the displacement of native Hawaiian forests by providing nourishment to feral pigs and mice that feed on native Hawaiian flora and fauna. Besides displacement of native Hawaiian species, strawberry guava puts humans at risk through increased erosion and soil runoff as well as hosting fruit flies that cause large scale damage to crops. Mechanical and chemical controls were used to manage P. cattleianum, however they require a lot of time, labor, and money, yet the strawberry guava prevails majority of the time. The State has recently introduced a biocontrol, T. ovatus, which is host specific to P. cattleianum and not its commercially significant cousin, P. guajava, nor any native Hawaiian plants. Although the T. ovatus will not kill the strawberry guava, the T. ovatus will inhibit the growth of new foliage and fruit formation. • 95. An Essay About Invasive Species Out of all the problems our environment faces like pollution and global warming, one of the most threatening problems is invasive species. An invasive species is an organism that is not native to an ecosystem and causes harm. They can harm the environment, economy, and even human health. When an invasive species starts to affect the economy, it becomes a bigger problem because it starts to get expensive to maintain and control. One invasive species is a strawberry guava or psidium cattleianum is an invasive species in Hawaii. The strawberry guava is a small shrub or tree that can grow to be 3–15 feet tall. The tree has a smooth trunk with shiny egg–shaped leaves that are about 2–4 inches in length and 1–2 inches wide. The strawberry guava ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Round gobies have mottled grey, olive green, and brown markings and the parental males usually have black markings and their dorsal fin might appear as a greenish color. But the male round goby is a bit larger than the female goby. It's important to maintain the round goby because round gobies have been found in hundreds and not only do they eat other species of fish but they also eat fish eggs when the opportunity presents itself. Round gobies are native to the Caspian and Black Sea and they may have been introduced through ballast water in the transatlantic ships originating from Eastern Europe. Both these invasive species need to be maintained and controlled before it gets out of control. Even though they may have been introduced by accident like the round goby, or on purpose like the strawberry guava they do have their pros. Like the wood of the strawberry guava tree can be used as firewood to smoke meat and the fruit can be made into a juice. Also, the round goby consumes another invader of the Great Lakes, the zebra mussel. Psidium cattleianum (strawberry guava) and Miconia calveescens (velvet tree) are two notorious invasive species to tropical islands. Strawberry guava is known to form monotypic stands in native forests that displace native Hawaiian species and spread by the means of seed dispersal and asexual reproduction. The velvet tree possess the ability to germinate in minimal light, grow through holes in the forest canopy, and outcompete neighboring native plants for sunlight. Site managers are currently combatting these invasive plant species by the means of mechanical and chemical control methods, however many of times the plants regenerate. Biocontrols that host on these foreign plants in their native land are currently being tested for host specificity so that the biocontrol exclusively attacks the target plant and not the native flora. Before the establishment of biocontrols regulations, there were numerous mistakes including the introduction of the mongoose that attacked native Hawaiian bird populations instead of the alien rat population. Because when viewed from above it seems tiny in comparison to the neighboring volcano Mauna Loa, Kilauea was originally believed to simply be a satellite of Mauna Loa instead of a distinct volcano. Research that has taken place during the last decades, however, shows that not only is Kilauea a separate volcano, but its magna–plumbing system actually goes over 60 kilometers deep into the earth. The Kilauea Volcano sits on a curved line made up of other volcanoes such as Kohala and Mauna Kea. Description The highest point on the Kilauea Volcano is slightly less than 4,200 feet. In addition, it has a large caldera at the summit that is 3 kilometers by 5 kilometers wide at the main depression but is 6 kilometers by 6 kilometers at the outermost faults and goes down 165 meters deep. The entire area of the volcano is 552 square meters. The oldest rocks found on the volcano date back 23,000 years and scientists estimate that the first eruption occurred between 300,000 and 600,000 years ago. Despite this, about 90% of the basaltic shield volcano found on the surface is made from lava flows that occurred less than 1000 years ago while 70% of the actual volcano's surface is 600 years old or younger. • 131. The Intervention Agent of Study Is Guava-Juice and Mung Beans The intervention agent of the study is guava–juice. The fruit itself contains up to 300 mg vitamin C of 100g edible portion (Tun et al., 2007). Although one may think that quite a lot vitamin C gets lost during processing techniques such as juice–making, it was shown that 100 ml of guava–juice still contains 76.2 mg of vitamin C. Therefore it was decided to use guava juice since it is easier to standardize. Even if the juice needs to be stored up to 8 days there is only a slight decrease of 1.2% in the amount of vitamin C, provided it is kept at a cool place, where the temperature doesn't exceed 4°C (Jawaheer et al., 2003). In former studies it was shown that the enhancing effect of vitamin C on iron absorption is dose– dependent. Only 25 mg of vitamin C were enough to increase iron absorption two fold, whereas 200 mg even elevated the absorption 6 fold (Hallberg, 1981). Therefore it was decided to include two treatment groups in the study design. These groups receive either a low (25mg) or a high (152mg) amount of vitamin C. To implement this idea into practice we take food–technologists into account who produce a submission–juice. With it we then dilute the guava–juice with the high–vitamin C concentration (152 mg/200ml) down to 25mg vitamin C per drink. The control group only gets the submission juice, which contains colouring and flavours to imitate the actual guava–juice. Just like every other region in the world, the approaches to death in Latin America are unique to the area, and have changed over the years. The Pre–Colonial death rituals in Mexico, Peru, and Haiti each have their own method of addressing this inevitable tragedy. Never the less there are common threads throughout the Aztec, Inca, and Taino peoples. When the Europeans arrived in the Americas the beliefs and assumptions surrounding death changed, along with the rest of the cultural landscape.
