Sem1 summary

 1. 1. Semester 1 MA Design By Practice Summary: Blog, Videos, Ideas
 2. 2. Blog

Address:

http://polyphemeofcymbria.wordpress.com

Exhibition report, research, ideas, arduino, etc.

 3. 3. Videos

1. Aristotle Plus One

Dualism & clairvoyance

http://vimeo.com/16733377

2. The Cybernetic Soul

Souls full of little robots

http://vimeo.com/18968756

 4. 4. After Effects

The Head of the clairvoyant will still be decapitated in the future (from Aristotle+1)!

Records of various ideas/proposals are to be kept using AE when possible.

 5. 5. Arduino

1. The medium in performance.

Attempt to attach EEG-type monitors to trigger via arduino temperature, sensations, etc.

Hope to set off “rainbow” coloured LEDs either during a performance or after.

Possible to trigger audio too as well as lights or instead of. Investigate “values.”

 6. 6. Arduino

2. Medium Replicant

Using rainbow coloured LEDs, after results of first exercise are known, build a Head, with bottles (Sol) for the LEDs.

This will be in the form of an icon (orthodox).

Original emotional triggers (of the Medium) will be used to trigger the Replicant in an exhibition space.

 7. 7. Icons

Heads have halos – these will be sol bottles surrounding the head like rays of consciousness

 8. 8. Icon 2

Bottles will surround head with LEDs inside.

 9. 9. The Sol Bottle

The yellow tint should offer a strange glow.

 10. 10. Sol Fountain

The Halo effect is clearly visible here.

Water jets powerfully from the bottle

at the right angle.

 11. 11. LED signifiers

Each colour from the rainbow will signify an emotion or “sense” of the medium

e.g. black = death by…

red = taste of blood

pink = woman’s perfume

The Icon Head will replicate the sensations of the medium’s performance.

The LEDs will light up the bottles, themselves signifiers of an altered state.

 12. 12. Values

The problem is to decide on the sets of values for triggering the arduino set-up.

Here’s a great site (one of many on the net) for mad ideas!

http://www.genomicon.com/2009/04/milestones-eyes-leds-and-e-bombs/

PW January, 2011
