Track 4: New Horizons in Automation
The chemical and petrochemical industries traditionally have been highly receptive to new control and supervision technologies. These industries have invested more money and time in research and innovation than any other industrial sectors. This track will highlight two of the most timely and innovative areas in process automation today: Wireless Communications and Safety and Security.

 1. 1. Track 4: New Horizons in Automation The chemical and petrochemical industries traditionally have been highly receptive to new control and supervision technologies. These industries have invested more money and time in research and innovation than any other industrial sectors. This track will highlight two of the most timely and innovative areas in process automation today: Wireless Communications and Safety and Security.
 2. 2. Session 4A: Wireless Plant Communications

 Tuesday, October 19 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

 Communications hassles restrict workplace mobility, as well as frustrate managers and employees. Thus, many companies are scrambling to find cost-efficient methods to improve internal communications systems that enhance operational productivity. Wireless plant communications come in many forms and address a wide range of goals at relatively low cost. This session will show how wireless hardware standards simplify integration and provide real-world examples of the economies of scale that have already been achieved.

Chair(s): David Holmes, PR Manager, Process Systems & Solutions, Emerson Process Management

Speaker(s):

Wireless Hardware Standards, Making the Right Choice Stephan Schultz, Senior Product Manager Automation, R. Stahl Schaltgeräte GmbH

Plant Wireless Solutions at the LAN level Kim Hoyt, Manufacturing Excellence Manager, Huntsman Corporation

 3. 3. Session 4B: Innovation in Process-Automation Safety and Security

Tuesday, October 19 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

 In the chemical process industries, instrumentation, automation and control go hand in hand with safety and security. This session will explain where safety instrumented systems are needed and help clarify the complex issues of integrating the two. It will also show how automation can help secure process facilities at a more vigilant level.

Speaker(s):

First Things First John Cusimano, SFSE, , Director of Security Services, Exida

Functional Safety in the Chemical Process Industry Denise Chastain-Knight, P.E., CFSE, , Technology Specialist Process Safety, CH2M Hill
