MEANING OF CULTURE
The ideas, customs, and social behavior of a particular
people or society.
DEFINITION OF CULTURE
E.B Taylor defines the culture as:
“The complex whole which includes
knowlodge,beliefs,arts,morals,customs and any all other
capabilities and habits acquired by man as members of
society”
CULTURE OF PAKISTAN
The society of Pakistan has many different cultures. The
east of country is mainly Punjabi, the south is mainly
Sindhi in the east are the tribal cultures. In many areas
the tribes and cultures are mixed, most Pakistanis are
Punjabi.
CULTURE OF INDIA
India is a very diverse country, and different religions
have their own distinct cultures. Language, religion, food
and the arts are just some of the various aspects of
Indian culture.

Pakistan
Pakistan is an ideological Islamic
state. Its existence is due to Islam.
So Pakistani culture is primarily
based on the Islamic way of life.
India
The major religions of India are
Hinduism (majority religion), Islam
(largest minority religion), Sikhism,
Christianity, Buddhism and
Jainism.

communication Urdu and

Pakistan are Sindhi, Punjabi,

kameeez ,kurta shalwar,dhuti kurta
• Women wears shalwar Kameez
,churidar with kurta or frok.
India
• Different parts of the country have
different styles of dressing.
• Such as sari,churidar for women.
• Men wears dhoti kurta, pant shirt.

• Many games are played in Pakistan
which reflects cultural identity.
• Hockey, Cricket ,Football and Squash
are most popular games in Pakistan.
• Badminton and Basketball are most
popular games among the Pakistani
women.
• Different shows are arranged in rural
areas like puppet show, loktamasha.
India
• Many games are played in India
which reflects Indian culture.
• Cricket and Field hockey are most
popular games in India.
• Netball is a popular Sport in India
among Indian women.
• Kabaddi is a popular sport in India.
It is the most popular in India

FESTIVALS
Pakistan
• The customs of the Muslims of
Pakistan are the same every
where.
• Eid-Fitar, Eidul Azha, Eid Milad-un-
Nabi ,and Urs at the shrines of the
Saints are held every year.
India
• India is multi-cultural and multi-
religious society ,celebrates
festivals of various religions.
• Diwali, Holi , Guru Purnima , Ram
Navami, Raksha Bandhan are
some famous festivals in India.

• The only way of greetings in
Pakistani culture is
“ Assalam o alaikum”

• Common greetings in India are:

CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS
1.MARRIAGE
Pakistan
• In Pakistani culture Muslims
celebrate a traditional Islamic
weddings .
• The rituals include Nikah, payment
of financial dower called Mahr by
the groom to the bride, signing of
marriage contract, and a
reception.
India
• Weddings are festive occasions in
India that depend on the religion of
the bride and the groom, as well as
their preferences.
• There are a few key rituals common
in Hindu wedding -
Kanyadaan, Panigrahana,
and Saptapadi.
• These are respectively :
 Gifting away of daughter by the
father,
 Voluntarily holding hand near the fire
to signify impending union

• Mehndi and Mayoon are
traditional customs of Pakistani
weddings.
India
 Taking seven steps before fire
with each step including a set of
mutual vows. After the seventh
step and vows of Saptapadi the
couple is legally husband and
wife.[
• Sikhs get married through a
ceremony called Anand Karaj. The
couple walk around the holy book,
the Guru Granth Sahib four times
2.DEATH CEREMONY
Pakistan
• In Pakistan after the death of any
muslim the body should be buried
as soon as possible from the time of
death according to Islamic law.
• To prepare the body for burial, it
must be washed (“Ghusl”) and
cover it with Kafan.
India
• In India Hindus do not buried their
bodies they burn their bodies and
after burning their bodies they put
them in Ganga River.

• After the Ghusl and Kafan the
Salat al-Janazah (funeral prayers)
should be performed by all
members of the community and
then body is buried in graveyard.
CONCLUSION
There are lot of differences between cultures of Pakistan and
India. In spite of all these difference, there are some common
customs also. The main differences are religious beliefs which
differentiate the way of life of both nations.

  • 6. MEANING OF CULTURE The ideas, customs, and social behavior of a particular people or society.
  • 7. DEFINITION OF CULTURE E.B Taylor defines the culture as: “The complex whole which includes knowlodge,beliefs,arts,morals,customs and any all other capabilities and habits acquired by man as members of society”
  • 8. CULTURE OF PAKISTAN The society of Pakistan has many different cultures. The east of country is mainly Punjabi, the south is mainly Sindhi in the east are the tribal cultures. In many areas the tribes and cultures are mixed, most Pakistanis are Punjabi.

  • 13. RELIGION Pakistan Pakistan is an ideological Islamic state. Its existence is due to Islam. So Pakistani culture is primarily based on the Islamic way of life. India The major religions of India are Hinduism (majority religion), Islam (largest minority religion), Sikhism, Christianity, Buddhism and Jainism.

LANGUAGES Pakistan • Two official languages of communication Urdu and English. • The regional languages of Pakistan are Sindhi, Punjabi, Baluchi, Pushto, Saraiki, Gojri and Hindku. • Urdu is a National language of Pakistan. India • Different parts of the country have different styles of dressing. • Such as sari,churidar for women. • Men wears dhoti kurta, pant shirt.

India • Many games are played in India which reflects Indian culture. • Cricket and Field hockey are most popular games in India. • Netball is a popular Sport in India among Indian women. • Kabaddi is a popular sport in India. It is the most popular in India villages.
  • 19. FESTIVALS Pakistan • The customs of the Muslims of Pakistan are the same every where. • Eid-Fitar, Eidul Azha, Eid Milad-un- Nabi ,and Urs at the shrines of the Saints are held every year. India • India is multi-cultural and multi- religious society ,celebrates festivals of various religions. • Diwali, Holi , Guru Purnima , Ram Navami, Raksha Bandhan are some famous festivals in India.
  • 20. GREETINGS Pakistan • The only way of greetings in Pakistani culture is “ Assalam o alaikum” India • Common greetings in India are: i. Namaste ii. Ram Ram iii. Sat Shri Akal iv. Jai Sri Ram

CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS 1.MARRIAGE Pakistan • In Pakistani culture Muslims celebrate a traditional Islamic weddings . • The rituals include Nikah, payment of financial dower called Mahr by the groom to the bride, signing of marriage contract, and a reception. India • Weddings are festive occasions in India that depend on the religion of the bride and the groom, as well as their preferences. • There are a few key rituals common in Hindu wedding - Kanyadaan, Panigrahana, and Saptapadi. • These are respectively :  Gifting away of daughter by the father,  Voluntarily holding hand near the fire to signify impending union
  • 22. CONT……….. Pakistan • Mehndi and Mayoon are traditional customs of Pakistani weddings. India  Taking seven steps before fire with each step including a set of mutual vows. After the seventh step and vows of Saptapadi the couple is legally husband and wife.[ • Sikhs get married through a ceremony called Anand Karaj. The couple walk around the holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib four times
  • 23. 2.DEATH CEREMONY Pakistan • In Pakistan after the death of any muslim the body should be buried as soon as possible from the time of death according to Islamic law. • To prepare the body for burial, it must be washed (“Ghusl”) and cover it with Kafan. India • In India Hindus do not buried their bodies they burn their bodies and after burning their bodies they put them in Ganga River.
  • 24. CONT…….. Pakistan • After the Ghusl and Kafan the Salat al-Janazah (funeral prayers) should be performed by all members of the community and then body is buried in graveyard.
  • 25. CONCLUSION There are lot of differences between cultures of Pakistan and India. In spite of all these difference, there are some common customs also. The main differences are religious beliefs which differentiate the way of life of both nations. 1 25
