EDC Entrepreneurial Development CellThe IIT-G Entrepreneurship Summit is aninitiative of the EDC-IIT Guwahati and isaimed at inspiring the youth of North-East India and spreading Entrepreneurialfervour among them, this is our missionstatement and our commitment to it issymbolically represented in the taglinefor IES which is “Innovate - Escalate -Succeed”.To this end, during the two-day summit, we organize lectures, work-shops, and a panel disussions.Since last year, we have also taken up aninitiative called “startup spotlight” whichis a platform for up and coming startupsto showcase their work during theSummit.Each year, IES has had a theme and thisyear, it is “Evolution beyond Darwin”.Beyond Darwin’s evolution theory, stat-ing survival and consequent evolution ofspecies with beneficial traits to sustainthe living environment, entrepreneurshipis also about moulding your environmentto be beneficial to you. Apart from intelli-gent utilisation of opportunities, buildingopportunities from situations one is in iswhat a true entrepreneur should do.

  4. 4. EDC Entrepreneurial Development CellThe lectures at IES are intended to inspire,educate and set up critical thinking in theminds of students and budding entrepre-neurs. The invited speakers are usually ofdiverse backgrounds with expertise invarious diverse fields. The lecture seriesbrings together successful entrepreneurs–young and experienced, Industry veter-ans and Investors who inspire and impartvaluable practical knowledge and know-how. Over the years, the Lecture Serieshas seen the likes personalities like SuneetSingh Tuli (CEO, Datawind), PhanindraSama (Founder-CEO,RedBus), S B Dangay-ach (MD,Sintex), Muki Regnuthan (CEO,PepperSquare), Kunwar Sachdev (CEO,Su-Kam Industries)

  7. 7. EDC Entrepreneurial Development Cell This is the online business pitch eventPitch It! where teams prepare a short video about their startup or idea and submit it as their “pitch”. This event is further divided into two parts, one where the ideas are com- mercial while in the other the ideas belong to the realm of social entrepre- neuship. The judging of these “pitches” will be done by a panel consisting of mentors and investors who are actively involved with EDC-IIT Guwahati and stand a chance to get mentored and incubated. This is the online case study competitionBe a CEO! wherein teams from all over India work on real problem statements given by start- ups and submit their plan of action. This event is aimed at educating aspiring entrepreneurs about the challenges faced by early-stage start-ups and hence forc- ing them to think how one can overcome them. This is a daily online quizzing event whereInspiria! questions will be asked frequently which are aimed at educating aspiring entrepre- neurs about the life and times of some famous entrepreneurs of the world.
  9. 9. EDC Entrepreneurial Development CellWorkshops at IES are designed to makeyou learn and to apply things that wouldaid your endeavours as a potential entre-preneur. These Workshops complementthe Lecture Series of IES, that is in theseworkshops we emphasize on skills thatcan only be attained through practiceand hence aim to instil confidence intothe hearts of students and buddingentrepreneurs. In the past, we have hadworkshops on "The Art of Persuasion" ,"Inventory Management", a "Masterclassin Administration" and "Strategic Innova-tion Game" which is a real-time businesssimulation environment.
  11. 11. EDC Entrepreneurial Development CellTwo heads are better than one they say,just imagine the quality of an eventwhere 6 such heads are involved, yes Imtalking about the Panel Discussion. It hasbeen a tradition of IES where the invitedspeakers come together on one stageand engage in a superb debate whichusually sees countless myths and miscon-ceptions of the audience regarding vari-ous business aspects busted, valuableinsights thrown around for the benefit ofthe audience, key concepts emphasizedwhich leaves the audience with new per-spectives. Some of the panel discussionsin the past have been on "Nature vs Nur-ture", "Borrow or Bootstrap?", "Entrepre-neurship - can it be taught or onlylearned?"

  13. 13. EDC Entrepreneurial Development CellStartup spotlight is aimed at introducingup and coming start-ups to the north-east where founders of these start-upsdescribe showcase their work. Last year,we have introduced this section into IESwith participation from start-ups beingmentored or incubated at IIT Guwahatiand this year we wish to see participationfrom start-ups all over the country.Last year we had a bunch of startupsamongst which were TRIP ENGINEERS andPIC-A-BIT.

  15. 15. IIT GuwahatiIndian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member ofthe IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic pro-gramme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995.At present the Institute has eleven departments and threeinter-disciplinary academic centres covering all the major engi-neering, science and humanities disciplines, offering BTech,BDes, MA, MDes, MTech, MSc and PhD programmes. Within ashort period of time, IIT Guwahati has been able to build upworld class infrastructure for carrying out advanced researchand has been equipped with state-of-the-art scientific and engineering instruments. Indian Institute of Technology Guwahatis campus is on a sprawling 285 hectares plot of land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra around 20 kms. from the heart of the city. With the majestic Brah- maputra on one side, and with hills and vast open spaces on others, the campusLecture Hall provides an ideal setting for learning.
