  4. 4. Mississippi Supreme Court <ul><li>Highest court in the state </li></ul><ul><li>Nine judges are voted into office to serve eight-year terms. </li></ul><ul><li>Hears cases about Mississippi laws and determines if they violate the constitution </li></ul>
  5. 5. Mississippi Court of Appeals <ul><li>Established in 1994 </li></ul><ul><li>Ten judges are voted into office to serve eight-year terms </li></ul><ul><li>Hear appeal cases assigned to them by the Supreme Court </li></ul>

Chancery and Circuit Courts <ul><li>Mississippi has 20 chancery court districts </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Hear cases involving family matters, including divorce and child custody </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Mississippi has 22 circuit court districts </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Hear cases involving criminal matters and some civil matters, which occur when one person sues another person </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Chancellors and circuit court judges are elected to four-year terms. </li></ul>
