What are we to pray for?

  1. 1. What are we to pray for? By Brian Birdow Sermon text: Colossians 4
  2. 2. Objective of Lesson • What is God’s will? • What are we to pray for? • When can we expect God to respond?
  3. 3. What is God’s will? • Romans 12:1-3 • Colossians 3…turn with me please
  4. 4. What is God’s will? • 2 Peter 3:9-10 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. • But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. • 1 Timothy 2:3-4 For this [is] good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
  5. 5. Praying for God’s will • 1 John 5:13-15 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
  6. 6. Praying for God’s will • Colossians 4:1-4 Masters, give unto [your] servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven. Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
  7. 7. Jesus prayed • Matthew 26:36
