Silence
The world is getting ever more crowded,
chaotic and noisy, with mobile conversations
everywhere—from public restrooms to
underground trains—and media filling
once-quiet spaces (cabs, elevators) with chatter.
Over-stimulated, we’ll increasingly look not
only to De-Tech (one of our 10 Trends for 2011)
but to retreat from the noise, whether at home,
in spas or even in nature (the “silent hike”).
One interesting manifestation: the 2011 silent
film The Artist, which looks likely to win some
big industry awards in 2012.
